Washington Leaders' Conference
Registration Open - May 8 & 9, 2019
Registration is now open for the Council's 2019 Washington Leaders' Conference (previously known as the Annual Spring Event).  The two-day conference will take place on May 8 and 9, 2019.  In addition to the new name,we are making other changes to the program, including a new welcome luncheon featuring a panel discussion with several prominent Washington journalists, as well as additional small group meetings for our policy committees with Administration officials and key Congressional staff.

DC Dialogue on NECN
February: Boston Globe's James Pindell Talks 2020, AICUM's Rich Doherty on Top Issues in Higher Ed
The most recent episode of DC Dialogue aired on NECN on February 24, 2019.  In the first segment, Jim Brett and Peter Howe were joined by James Pindell, Political Reporter at The Boston Globe, for analysis of the latest developments in the 2020 Presidential race, and a surprising prediction from James about the Democratic front-runner. Later in the show, Rich Doherty, President of the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities in Massachusetts (AICUM) joined Jim and Peter to discuss some of the most pressing issues facing the region's higher education community, including recent closures or mergers of small private colleges, as well as the re-authorization of the Higher Education Act.

The next episode of DC Dialogue will air on NECN on Sunday, March 24, at 11:30 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.  Our guests will be U.S. Rep. Jim McGovern, the new Chairman of the House Rules Committee, and Emily Reichert, CEO of Greentown Labs, the nation's largest clean tech incubator.

TCI Women's Leadership Survey
NEC Members Invited to Participate in Women's Leadership Survey
The New England Council is pleased to partner with The Commonwealth Institute for TCI's Women's Leadership Development in Massachusetts 2019 Impact Study, the second annual state-wide study focused on understanding employers' actions to develop, retain, and advance women employees in Massachusetts. New England Council members are invited to participate in the survey.

TCI has partnered with the nationally recognized research firm Researchscape to conduct the research and provide the analysis for this project. For validity of the research, each organization will receive a unique URL to access their copy of the survey.

Policy Committee Updates
Financial Services Committee Meeting with Rep. Lynch
On Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at 9:30 a.m., the NEC Financial Services Committee will host a meeting with Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA), a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee.  Congressman Lynch will brief members on the committee's agenda for the year and his own priorities related to the financial sector.  The meeting will take place at the Hampshire House in Boston.  For more information, contact Griffin Doherty.
Financial Services Committee Briefing with Rep. Himes
The NEC Financial Services Committee will host a conference call with Rep. Jim Himes (D-CT), a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee on Friday, March 8, 2019, at 10:00 a.m.  Congressman Himes will updated members on the committee's agenda for the 116th Congress and his own priorities related to the financial sector.  For more information, contact Griffin Doherty.
Higher Education Committee Briefing with Sen. Warren's Staff
On February 6, the Higher Education Committee hosted a conference call with Josh Delaney, xxx to Senator Elizabeth Warren, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee.  Mr. Delaney provided an overview of the Senator's priorities related to higher education and updated members on the HELP Committee agenda in the coming months.  For more information, contact Taylor Pichette.
Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Briefing with Rep. Pappas' Staff
On February 19, the NEC Transportation & Infrastructure Committee hosted a conference call with Steven Carlson, Legislative Director in the office of Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH).  Carlson discussed Rep. Pappas' priorities as a new member of hte House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee and offered his insights on the path forward for a major federal infrastructure bill.  For more information, please contact Peter Phipps.
