Congressional Roundtable with Representative Stephen Lynch

Nearly 300 Council members gathered at the Seaport Hotel on February 25, 2020, for a Congressional Roundtable featuring U.S. Representative Joe Kennedy, who engaged in a dynamic "fireside chat" discussion with NEC President & CEO Jim Brett.  The Congressman is pictured here (C) with Chris Ferzli (L) and Audrey Perkins (R), both of Ocean Spray, the event sponsor.  
2020 Washington Leaders' Conference
Registration Now Open for Washington Leaders' Conference
Registration is now open for The New England Council's 2020 Washington Leaders' Conference, which will take place on Wednesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 14.  Join over 200 Council members for two days of meetings and briefings with members of Congress, key Congressional staff, federal agency officials, and national media figures.  


Please note that the conference takes place during a very busy time in Washington, DC, and we encourage members to make travel arrangements as soon as possible.  A limited number of hotel rooms are being held under several room blocks, all with April deadlines to make reservations.  


Registration fees are $500 for members, $700 for non-members, and $300 for NEC Board Members.  Sponsorship opportunities are also available - contact Larry Zabar for more information.  
DC Dialogue on NECN
April Show Features Rep. Lori Trahan, Boston Globe's James Pindell
The most recent episode of DC Dialogue aired on NECN
on Sunday, February 23, 2020.  In the first episode taped in the new NBCU Media Center in Needham, Jim Brett and Peter Howe were joined by U.S. Rep. Lori Trahan.  In a wide-ranging discussion, the Congresswoman shared her thoughts on the recent impeachment proceedings and President Trump's budget proposal, and highlighted her work on issues including college affordability and preserving minor league baseball in Lowell.  

Later in the show, Boston Globe political report James Pindell
offered his insights on the outcome of the New Hampshire Presidential Primary, the candidates' performances at the most recent debate, and the outlook for the upcoming South Carolina and Super Tuesday Presidential primaries.  
New England Innovates: On the Cutting Edge of Life Sciences
Millipore Sigma CEO to Keynote Life Sciences Event
The New England Council will host "New England Innovates: On the Cutting Edge of Life Sciences," the 6th event in the Council's popular "New England Innovates" series, on Tuesday, April 7, 2020, at The Hampshire House in Boston.  The event will feature keynote remarks from Udit Batra, CEO of MilliporeSigma.  In addition, a panel of New England Council members in the life sciences sector will highlight their organizations' unique innovations and will discuss some of the challenges and opportunities for continued growth in this exciting industry.

Policy Committee Updates
Financial Services Committee Meets with Rep. Lynch
Financial Services Committee Member Ed Donahue of Aflac with Rep. Lynch.
On February 10, 2020, the NEC Financial Services Committee hosted a meeting with Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-MA), who serves on the House Financial Services Committee.  The meeting was held immediately following the Council's Congressional Roundtable breakfast with the Congressman.  During the small group discussion, Rep. Lynch updated members on his work as the Chair of the newly-established Financial Technology (FinTech) Task Force, and provided updates on other matters before the committee.  For more information on this meeting or any Financial Services Committee activities, please contact Griffin Doherty.
Higher Education Committee Holds Briefing with Sen. Warren's Staff
On February 19, NEC Higher Education Committee members had the opportunity to participate in a conference call with Josh Delaney, Education Policy Adviser to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).  Mr. Delaney updated members on the Senator's work as a member of the Senate Health Education Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee. He discussed the prospects for re-authorization of the Higher Education Act as well as the Senator's College Student Hunger Act, and data on student loan repayment.  For more information on this briefing or any Higher Education Committee activities, please contact Taylor Pichette.
