New Englanders of the Year to be Honored October 11
The New England Council 2018 Annual Dinner will take place on the evening of Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the Seaport Hotel/World Trade Center in Boston.  Join us as we celebrate the Council's continued success and ongoing growth, and honor several remarkable New Englanders of the Year.

Op-Ed Stresses Importance of Trade with Canada & Mexico
With international trade on the front-burner in Washington, DC, the Council weighed in on the importance of trade with our allies in Canada and Mexico in an Op-Ed piece that has been published in several regional publications in recent weeks:
Joint Op-Ed on Developing the Talent Pipeline
The Council recently partnered with the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) on a joint Op-Ed by the NEC's Jim Brett and NEBHE's Michael Thomas.  The Op-Ed discusses the importance of collaboration between employers and the higher education community to prepare students for the workforce.  It has been published in several publications:

NEC Particpates in 42nd Annual NEG/ECP Conference
On August 12 and 13, The New England Council participated in the 42nd Annual Conference of the New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers (NEC/ECP).  The conference was hosted by Vermont Governor Phil Scott at the Stowe Mountain Lodge in Stowe, VT, and featured discussions on topics of mutual concern to New England and Eastern Canada, including energy storage, electric vehicles, and trade.  NEC President and CEO Jim Brett is pictured here at the conference with Canadian Consul General David Alward and NEC Board Member Connie Brennan of TD Bank. 
Policy Committee Updates
Financial Services Committee Luncheon with Rep. Tom Emmer
The NEC Financial Services Committee will meet for a luncheon with U.S. Representative Tom Emmer (R-MN-6), a member of the House Financial Services Committee.  The luncheon will be hosted by LPL Financial at their downtown Boston office on Thursday, September 20, from 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.  If you have any questions, please contact Griffin Doherty.
Healthcare Committee to Meet with CMS Official
The NEC Healthcare Committee will meet on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at the offices of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts in Boston.  The Committee will hear from Raymond Hurd, Deputy Consortium Administrator for the Consortium for Medicare Health Plan Operations (CMHPO).   Due to building security advanced registration is required. Members who cannot attend in person may participate via conference call.  If you have any questions, please contact Sean Malone.
Higher Education Committee Discussion with Sen. Sanders' Staff
On August 15, 2018, the NEC Higher Education Committee hosted a conference call with Donni Turner, Senior Education Policy Advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders, a member of the Senate HELP ommittee.  Ms. Turner updated members on issues before the Senate HELP Committee and answer questions on topics ranging from the Higher Education Act to federal financial assistance.  For more information, please contact Taylor Pichette.
