Week 3 at NEC Prep: September 19-24

We're heading into Week Three of the academic year at NEC Prep!


In this week's newsletter, you'll find updated information for program locations. Please be sure to use the PDFs and links in this email to get the most updated information. If you have any questions on where to go, check in with one of our Hospitality Ambassadors stationed at the entrances of the SLPC and Jordan Hall.


If you have any questions regarding registration support, we will be available in the Welcome Center at 33 Gainsborough Street during these hours on Saturday, Sept. 23: 8:00AM–11:00AM & 1:30PM–4:00PM.


These revised hours will only be in effect for Saturday to accommodate NEC's College Fair.

Information for this week's String Department Workshop/Recital Combo as well as Piano Department Workshop will be emailed to students and families in those programs on Friday. This information will also be posted on the bulletin boards in Jordan Hall and available with all Hospitality Ambassadors at the welcome tables in Jordan Hall and the SLPC.

Prep Opening Celebration

NEC Prep Opening Reception

Saturday, September 23

9:00am–12:00pm

Welcome Center | 33 Gainsborough Street

NEC Prep students and their families are invited to drop in and join us for an informal Opening Reception. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet fellow students, families, and NEC Prep faculty and staff as we embark on a new year.


Light breakfast refreshments will be provided. Be sure to grab some giveaways while supplies last! We're excited to welcome you to the NEC Prep 2023-2024 year and hope to see you there!

Youth Symphony Greece Tour Info Session

Saturday, September 23 at 2:00-3:00PM

Williams Hall (located in the Jordan Hall building)

Youth Symphony students and families are encouraged to join us on Saturday, September 23rd at 2:00PM in Williams Hall to learn about the YS Greece Tour scheduled for June 16–23, 2024. Robin Teague from Encore Tours will be on hand to answer questions and provide additional information.

Penguin Passes for New & Returning Students


New NEC Prep Students

New students should pick up their IDs in the Welcome Center located at 33 Gainsborough Street. Upon entering the building, take a left at security, and members of the NEC Prep team will be on hand to assist you.


Returning NEC Prep Students

Returning students should bring their existing Penguin Pass with them. This pass will grant you entry into all NEC buildings, making your transition back to campus smooth. If you have lost your ID, please visit the Welcome Center located at 33 Gainsborough Street to request a day pass. You will then need to request a new I.D. via the Transact App.

Parent/Guardian Campus Passes

All parents intending to accompany their students onto NEC’s campus will need this year’s Parent Pass. Please be sure to download this PDF and keep it available on your phone. You will need to show this pass to security upon arrival at any of NEC’s buildings.


You may also check in at any of the NEC Prep tables at the entrance of our buildings. You’ll need to be verified by Prep Staff, and then receive the Parent Pass. Parents will not be admitted to NEC’s buildings without the Parent Pass!

Campus Wayfinding

Visit our website for directions

Jordan Hall (abbreviated as JH) rooms should all enter via 30 Gainsborough Street. Locations within Jordan Hall include Brown Hall, Williams Hall, Keller Room, and Jordan Hall. Any classroom number preceded by JH is located in Jordan Hall.


33G rooms should enter through 33 Gainsborough Street. The NEC Prep office and Welcome Center are located here.


Student Life & Performance Center (SLPC) rooms should all enter via 255 St. Botolph Street. Locations with the SLPC include Burnes Hall, Eben Jordan Large Ensemble Room, Plimpton Shattuck Black Box Theatre.


St. Botolph (abbreviated as SB) rooms should all enter through the primary SLPC entrance via 255 Saint Botolph Street. Locations within St. Botolph include Pierce Hall and classrooms. Any classroom number preceded by SB is located in the St. Botolph building.

Visit Our Hospitality Ambassadors

This year, we're excited to introduce Prep's Hospitality Ambassadors, stationed at the entrance of Jordan Hall and the SLPC. Our ambassadors will have information on program timing and locations, our academic calendar, and campus wayfinding, and can answer any questions you may have.


Not sure where to direct a question or which building to go to? We will also have staff stationed in the Welcome Center located at 33 Gainsborough Street.


You can also call 617-585-1160 and a member of our staff will be able to address your questions or concerns.


2023-2024 Absence Request Form

Students must submit this Absence Request Form at least one week prior to an expected absence for all circumstances in which the need for the absence is known in advance. The Prep Office staff will review the request and may discuss requested absences for each rehearsal with the conductor/teacher. If a student is absent or late and has not submitted a form, they must submit a letter of explanation to the manager/assistant by the following rehearsal/class.

Discounted Parking for Prep Families!

For any 10 hours, Prep Families who enter the Garage before 4PM and exit by 6PM will pay a flat rate of $19 (fees not included). Standard online rates apply for any reservations over 10 hours or after 6PM.


Click here to purchase discounted parking. Once you have completed your parking purchase online, you will be emailed a QR code that you will be able to scan in/out of the garage! Please note that if you arrive before your reservation starts, you will not be able to enter the garage. Should you overstay your reservation time, additional fees will apply.


If you have reserved parking and received a QR code, do not pull a ticket upon entering the garage! The QR code serves as your ticket in and out. If you pull a ticket upon entry, you will be responsible for the posted parking fee at the garage.
