NEFLIN Technology Conference
|
The 201  3 NEFLIN Technology Conference will be held on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Embassy Suites - Baymeadows hotel in Jacksonville. This all-day event will feature nationally known speakers, an opportunity to have hands-on experiences with new technologies, and a tasty lunch. (This is what is known in the business as a teaser!). Look for more information on this event in the coming months.

SmartPay and NRPLC
|
New River Public Library Cooperative and its member libraries now provide the ability to securely pay fines and fees on a customer's library account or donate via credit or debit card using Smart Pay. New River purchases their annual subscription through NEFLIN for Smart Pay and receives a substantial discount that was negotiated on their behalf. This discount is available for all NEFLIN libraries. Contact NEFLIN for more information. |

Arnold's Retirement
|
Arnold Weeks has just retired as Community Services Director for Clay County. Arnold was a public library director in the State of Florida for 33 years, and a past President of the NEFLIN Board of Directors.
The NEFLIN staff attended his retirement party, which was a wonderful event. Arnold told the crowd that he looks forward to spending quality time with his family and fishing.

FLA Conference in May
|
The Florida Library Association will be holding its annual conference, May 1-3, in Orlando. The deadline for early conference registration is March 1st.
There is a great line-up of speakers, presentations, poster sessions, and even a Cyber Zone (highlighting new technologies). We hope to see you there in May!

Florida Department of Agriculture
& Consumer Services Division of Plant Industry
Beverly Pope, Librarian
 The Division of Plant Industry (DPI) is responsible for protecting Florida's native and commercially grown plants and its beekeeping industry from harmful pests and diseases. The library is located at DPI headquarters in Gainesville, and helps Division scientists and affiliated researchers correctly identify suspected plant pests.
The DPI Library maintains a specialized collection of 20,000+ books and journals on insects and other plant pests, plants, and related topics. Many items in the collection are not held by other Florida libraries, and some titles are held by only a few other libraries worldwide. The library is open to the public for research use on-site, and provides loans and copies via ILL. |

NEFLIN Audit

Nothing puts a hand over your mouth to stifle a yawn like discussing an audit. However, NEFLIN Board President Elizabeth Curry recently stated that while a clean audit is often taken for granted it is actually the result of excellent work by staff.
There are numerous types of auditor's opinions. The best is a "clean" opinion which states the financial statements are in good order and the organization is in compliance with associated rules, regulations, and accounting practices. NEFLIN has again received a clean opinion on its audit. The NEFLIN Board commended the NEFLIN staff on this important accomplishment and the sound financial management of the organization.
