New Genealogy Interest Group

Due to digitization, the popularity of ancestry.com and television shows like "Who Do You Think You Are?",
genealogy is a popular hobby in America.

Genealogy IG Family history is personal and sometimes emotional.  Genealogy researchers may be overwhelmed by the amount of information available, frustrated by elusive records or simply looking for alternate sources.  They look to librarians for direction.

Together we will stay ahead of the curve by sharing
Genealogy resources and programming ideas
.

If you would like to receive email notifications of the
Genealogy Interest Group's meetings, or any of NEFLIN's
other interest groups, please contact Jennifer O'Neill at NEFLIN 904-278-5620 or [email protected].

Panama Canal's 100th Anniversary

The Panama Canal Museum has donated a "Museum In A Trunk" to us.  Borrow the trunk to provide library programs about the canal as 2014 is the 100th anniversary of its completion.

Contact NEFLIN to schedule for pickup and use of the trunk.

We also want to thank Dr. Rachel Schipper, University of Florida Smathers Libraries, for making this donation possible.

Jacksonville Public Library
Barbara Gubbin, Library Director

The Jacksonville Public Library's mission is to enrich lives, build community, and foster success by bringing people, information, and ideas together. We reach people more than 20 million times a year across Duval County through our 20 branch libraries and the Main Library. We are one of the most popular city services with more than 4.5 million visits.

As an essential partner in creating lifelong learning experiences, we offered more than 11,000 programs and services last year, including Storytime, poetry slams, job search training, national exhibits and author presentations.

Visitors enjoy full access to library computers, free Internet access and Wi-Fi, electronic resources, books, movies, music, periodicals, exhibits and special collections. We also have meeting spaces available for use at no charge at our branch locations; the Conference Center at the Main Library offers an auditorium, meeting rooms and an outdoor courtyard available to rent for weddings, business functions and other events.

The Jacksonville Public Library recently won two Folio Weekly 2013 Best of Jax Awards: Best Use of Public Money (the second year in a row!) and Best Library Branch (Main Library).
