Future Brad's Annual Meeting Invitation

It's time for another NEFLIN Annual Meeting.  And we don't use the word "time" without some added meaning.  This Annual Meeting was so noteworthy that Brad's future self joined Brad to invite you this year.

All library staff are welcome to join us on September 13 at the Schultz Center in Jacksonville.  We hope to see you then!

New Online Course

After several months of preparation, we are finally able to say to you, dear NEFLIN member, we are now offering access to Ryan Dowd's Librarian's Guide to Homelessness online course!

Many members asked us to facilitate access to the course after reading his 2018 book of the same title (available from our Lending Library) and/or seeing him at ALA last year with Emilio Estevez.

For the next year, all NEFLIN members will have access to this self-paced online course. We are hoping that the course will inspire discussion among you and all participants will find new methods of working with this customer base.

This coming Monday, July 22, keep an eye out for an email from us detailing how to sign up for the course!

These ARE the Droids You're Looking For...
Sometimes you get to educate and entertain at the same time. It's called Edutaining. This is one of those times. NEFLIN has just added two Sphero Droids, R2-D2 and BB-8, to our Equipment Loan offerings. These two remote controlled imps check out together with an iPad loaded with the software needed to control them. What better way to demonstrate STEAM activities than with two familiar friends? In addition to just looking cool and cruising around, R2 and BB help with teaching programming skills.

Outgoing Board Members

Thank you's go out to the outgoing members who have served on the NEFLIN Board of Directors.  Katrina, Holly, and Christine will complete their three-year terms this September.

Member Spotlight:  Brandy Black

Brandy Black is the Branch Manager of the Middleburg-Clay Hill Library in Clay County, Florida. She started her library career as a senior at Middleburg High School working in the Media Center. She later chose to pursue her MLIS, graduating from FSU in 2010. After working for a rural library system in Vidalia, Georgia, her dream was fulfilled when she returned to her home town to become manager of her childhood library.

For the last 10 months Brandy has been attending the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute with other library professionals from all across the State of Florida. For her Leadership Project, she joined forces with several local organizations to begin the creation of the Outdoor Exploration Garden. The goal of the garden is to enhance and expand programming offered to the residents of Clay County. Further
expansion is planned in the next several months to add a pollinator garden and beehive to the existing butterfly and food gardens. She hopes that the tools and confidence she has built through her attendance at SSLLI will better enable her to serve the residents of Clay County for many years to come.

Congratulations to Brandy and ALL of our NEFLIN Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute Year 15 grads!
