Featured Trainers: Awful Library Books
|
We are beyond happy to announce that we have added Holly Hibner and Mary Kelly, the brains behind the
Awful Library Books
website to our roster of trainers.
If you aren't familiar with the site, Hibner and Kelly showcase books recently weeded from library collections that likely should have been shown the door years (or even decades) before. From a 1983 book on computers in libraries to 1975's Woman's Work Book to a "Self-help, How-to Book" from 1966 titled Brainwashing Is a Cinch!, the site is full of submissions from library staff of books they find in the course of weeding. Hibner and Kelly appropriately roast the books while giving actual professional thinking for why the book should be weeded or occasionally defending the inclusion in a collection.
Their first two webinars,
Making a Collection Count and
Stuck in the Weeds will surely prove to be invaluable viewing for staff needing an introduction or refresher on Collection Management. The School Libraries Interest Group recently enjoyed a presentation from the duo, and we're betting that the rest of our membership will enjoy their style of instruction as well.

A Universe of Stories - here's just a taste of what's going on this summer across the NEFLIN region!

The Best Summer at Your Library". Youth Services Librarian Andy Calvert shared what the library is offering the community this summer on an edition of SJC Today.
Down in
Levy County
, weekly
themed programs will rotate
on a daily basis from branch to branch.
Themes inclu
de Pokemon, Magic,
Buzz Lightyear, Baby Shark, and the Grand Finale Glow Maze.
The crowds at Levy County Summer Reading programs are legendary!
One thing is for sure about Summer Reading in
Bradford County...it will be dramatic!!!
In just four days, the Library gave out over 150 Summer Readings bags to kids and 150 entry forms for the Adult Reading Program and signed up 20 teens for the Reading & Writing Contest. Buckle your seatbelts!
Summer at the Library in
Alachua County is all about
Participating by
tracking your reading with
Beanstack,
earning badges, and more;
Connecting by following
and tagging the library's Social Media
pages; and
Discovering
new resources, programs, and adventures in the Alachua County community. You can even participate in
Book Share by finding, reading, and logging titles located at local businesses throughout the County.
We wish we had the space to mention ALL of the programs taking place throughout our region, but we'll be watching all summer for your Social Media updates - good luck, NEFLIN libraries!
