You Know Stuff...Now Tell Others
|
The benefits of having a mentor are pretty well-known, but one first-time mentor has this to say about the experience:
"Becoming a mentor has actually helped me in
my
career! Not only have I enjoyed helping others figure out their best moves forward, but because I've stepped out of my circle of friends and associates, mentoring has inspired fresh ideas and perspectives for me to use day-to-day."
Are you ready to give back?
|
The Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute is looking for mentors who are willing to: |
- Have regularly scheduled discussions either online, by phone, or face to face (a minimum of once per month from October 2016 - July 2017) with your mentee.
- Work with your mentee to design, implement and evaluate a library leadership project.
- Give encouragement, inspiration, advice and corrective feedback; provide introductions to people who can help your mentee; and provide opportunities for your mentee to develop their leadership skills.
- Attend the first day of the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute in October 2016 in Ocala and attend your mentee's graduation in July 2017 in Tallahassee.

Amazon Gives Back to NEFLIN
|
One of the takeaways from the NEFLIN Annual Survey was that many members are not aware of NEFLIN's partnership with Amazon.
It's easy! Visit
www.neflin.org/amazon
which will lead you to the Amazon website. Then purchase
any items for yourself or your library. Amazon will then provide NEFLIN with a percentage of any purchases you make.
You can also share this with friends or family!
Anyone who makes a purchase after clicking on the link at
www.neflin.org/amazon
will help NEFLIN. Your privacy is maintained as all purchases are anonymous. Thank you for your support!

Spotlight on ITT Technical Institute
|
Lea Cason Kilgallon, Campus Librarian
Established in 1969, ITT Technical Institute is a nationally accredited school that has grown to over 130 campuses in
38 states. ITT Tech offers associate, bachelors and online master's degrees in many different areas. The Jacksonville campus was started in 1991 with thirteen students and in one year grew to more than 150 students.
Our campus offers associate degrees and bachelor degrees in some of today's most popular career fields including Information Systems and Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Drafting, and Nursing.
All total, we have ten programs and more than 550 students. Our small campus size allows for more hands-on support and flexibility to accommodate students' schedules. This is helpful because 75% of our population is nontraditional and 80% attend classes at night.
The library continues to adapt to our students' needs and offers tutorial support, computers, books, periodicals, and DVDs. The ITT Tech Virtual Library is the portal for students to access electronic resources. ITT Tech encourages lifelong learning by offering our alumni continued use of the virtual library. The library staff is highly involved in classroom support and visits several classes each quarter for orientation, information literacy instruction, and research support. Recently, we added two different workshops and library events that change monthly. These activities have been well received and contribute to student experience and success.
