Library Makerfest Recap
|
Thanks to all of you who joined us for
The day was full of creating, experimenting, innovating, and, of course, lots and lots of
making. We hope all of you who were there left with ideas that you can use as you make your libraries more and more Maker-friendly.

Check out more pictures of Library Makerfest 2018
here
, and begin making your plans to be a part of next year's fest, which will again be held in the NEFLIN region.
We want to extend a HUGE thank you to our
vendors and to the
libraries who hosted a booth, either as part of our Showcase or as part of Maker's Row - Library Makerfest would not have been possible without you!
Also, we need to extend an extra-special thanks to all of the volunteers who helped us make the event a success! NEFLIN members helped in setting up and breaking down furniture, directing traffic (both people and vehicles), table-sitting for exhibitors and so many other things during the event. We honestly couldn't have done it without you!
Special thanks, too, to our friends at
Tampa Bay Library Consortium, who not only shared their past experiences with Library Makerfest to help us along the way, but who also traveled to be with us for the day. We appreciate you all!

Mentors Needed for Leadership Institute
|
As a core part of the program, each participant finds a mentor who can serve as an adviser, confidant, teacher, resource, sponsor, and cheerleader during the SSLLI process. This mentor is a crucial and valuable component of SSLLI.
If you are looking for a way to share your experiences and the professional wisdom you've gained in your career,
consider being a mentor for SSLLI Year 15. You might find that you gain as much from your experience as your mentee does!

Member Spotlight: Ann Collins & Erica Davis
|
Ann Collins is the branch manager at the Volusia County Public Library Deltona Regional Library Branch. She has really enjoyed watching the increase in makerspace programming in libraries, since she has always loved crafting. Ann's current favorite thing to do is designing and creating hand embroidery samplers. She also knits, crochets, sews and just recently completed her first woodworking project, a shelving unit for the garage, which is still standing. Ann received a Master's Degree in Library Science in 2008 from the University of South Florida and a Master's Degree in Liberal Studies in 2002 from Rollins College, FL.
Erica Davis is the Makerspace Librarian in Volusia County Public Library's Daytona Beach Regional Library. She has been with the Volusia County Library for 10 years and has experience working in the three main service areas: Circulation, Reference, and Children's. Erica has many years of experience in programing for all ages and now is in charge of creating and coordinating all activities within the makerspace. She will graduate with her Master's Degree in Library Science this Fall from the University of South Florida and is excited to get some free time back to enjoy the things she loves; reading for enjoyment, crafting, tinkering, Girl Scouts, and enjoying nature.
Thanks, Ann and Erica, for helping our members learn more about creating Makerspaces and incorporating Maker programming in their libraries!

Are you curious about the new AASL standards and how to incorporate them into your school library program? Join us as we understand the origin of the AASL standards, analyze them and their component parts, and make connections between the new Standards and your daily practice.
The workshop will have large group and small table group work so each participant can leave ready to implement the student based AASL standards and how it can interface with the State of Florida ExC3EL rubric for library program guidelines.
