NEFLIN to Host Librarian Olympics
|
NEFLIN selected to host Librarian Olympics!
|
The Librarian Olympics is a new partnership with the official Olympics games to recognize the best in the field of librarianship.
|
While the summer games will be hosted in
Rio de Janeiro in 2016, NEFLIN welcomes the Librarian Olympics to northeast Florida.
When asked about hosting the games NEFLIN Executive Director Brad Ward provided this response.
"Librarian Olympics? Are you pulling my leg?" [No we're not.]
"Well then, NEFLIN is proud to host these games next year. We will do our best to provide a safe, secure, and entertaining experience for the athletes, and all our fans."

The Division of Library and Information Services is presenting its annual
Florida Library Youth Program workshops for the 2016 Summer Library Program.
The morning session's theme,
Get in the Game: Read, will focus on teen programming.
The afternoon session will highlight children's programming, with the theme
On Your Mark, Get Set, Read
.
Youth services staff and media specialists are invited to participate in one of five free, day-long workshops in the NEFLIN region with Lead FLYP Trainer, Erin Arnold:
Dress casually and plan to participate in activities. Bring a camera, phone or tablet, your manual and any ideas to share.

12th Year of SSLLI Kicks Off
|
Students of the Sunshine State Library Leadership Institute (including several NEFLIN members!) had the opportunity to meet each other and lay the groundwork with their mentors during the first of their ten monthly sessions. |
|
They were encouraged by Dr. Jill Canono, the Library Leadership Program Consultant at the State Library, to discuss the differences between management and leadership. The conversations were lively and continued over lunch.
Dr. Canono went over the expectations of the program and answered questions.
Students also got a chance to meet Linda Bruno who will be leading the rest of the sessions. Linda said she was impressed by their enthusiasm and she is excited for this year.

Holiday Shopping On Your Mind?
|
|
As the Holidays approach you may decide to shop online at Amazon.com. Remember that before you do, please visit http://www.neflin.org/amazon first. This link will take you to Amazon and then provide a credit to NEFLIN when you (or your friends or family) make a purchase. Anyone can assist NEFLIN in this manner, not just NEFLIN members.
(All purchases are anonymous. NEFLIN receives no information on who ordered...just cash. Yea!) |

Spotlight on College of Central Florida
|
College of Central Florida
The College of Central Florida, one of the 28 Florida state colleges, serves Marion, Citrus and Levy counties, with campuses in Ocala, Lecanto and Chiefland. Formerly Central Florida Community College, the school was created from the merger of Central Florida Junior College (founded 1957) and Hampton Junior College, one of the first black two-year colleges in the state (founded 1958). CF also owns and operates the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala.
CF's vision is to be the first choice for quality higher education in its community.
Among the ways CF reflects the unique needs of its community is the Equine Studies program in Ocala, the Horse Capital of the World, and the award-winning dental assistant program serving lower-income patients.
Full service libraries are part of the Learning Resources Centers at both the Ocala and Citrus Campuses.
The CF Libraries' onsite collections include 76,313 books, 6,068 audiovisual materials, and 184 serial subscriptions. Among
the libraries' special collections are the Will McLean Florida Folk Music Collection and Scott Brown Wisdom Traditions Collection. CF Libraries work closely with Learning Support Services, which offers in-person and online tutoring in a wide variety of subjects, as well as a writing center.

Question of the Month |
The 5 Minute Librarian makes the case for library mascots as an easy way to publicize your library.
Does your library have a mascot?
Visit NEFLIN on Facebook
and share with us!
Mascots can revitalize lagging social network traffic, create interest in programs, and show your workplace as a fun place, causing your patrons to make the connection between libraries and happiness.
Make the most of your mascot by making it
memorable, fun, and timely. Use your mascot on social media, making news more exciting, and revitalizing waning interest.
