Return on Your NEFLIN Investment
|
At the end of each year NEFLIN provides their member libraries with a personalized Return on Investment report.
|
The median return for a member library this year was $7,359 which is many times what a library pays ($500 - $1,500) in membership dues!
|
Hats off to our libraries who continue to take advantage of the wide variety of NEFLIN services and have such a good return on their investment.

Distinguished Career Comes to a Close
|
Ginny Bird, recent winner of NEFLIN's Distinguished Career Award, had a wonderful retirement bash last month at the Union County Public Library.
Ginny has been a pioneer in helping rural communities in Florida grow in library services, including establishing library service in Union County (the last remaining county in Florida that did not have a public library). She has assisted in building expansions, collection development, technology services, and many community projects throughout her career.

Member Library Spotlight: JU Library
|
Jacksonville University Library
The Carl S. Swisher Library of Jacksonville University prides itself on meeting student needs in resources, facilities, and services in an ever-changing academic environment. In addition to the library, the 53,000 square foot building houses a computer lab, a training lab, the Tutoring Center, offices of theTRiO Program, and the Marilyn Repsher Center for Teaching and Learning.
The library was built in three phases between 1953 and 1970 through the generosity of Carl Swisher, former chairman of JU's Board of Trustees and CEO of King Edward Cigars in Jacksonville. The design of the first portion of the building, by architect J. Brooks Haas, was recognized with awards at Georgia Tech and the International Trade Fair in Zagreb, Yugoslavia. As with many of the campus buildings, it is designed in what is now called Mid-Century Modern style.
The library is currently undergoing a multi-year renovation centered on reclaiming book stack areas to provide more areas for group and individual study, art exhibits, and a coffee shop. Staff members are withdrawing massive numbers of older books and other physical resources, many of which have been replaced in content by eBooks and other electronic resources, addressing both current student research preferences and the need to support an increasing number of online courses and programs.
