Transforming your presentation from Meh to Memorable!

You've been asked — or perhaps you've volunteered — to host a webinar. Now what?

We've all endured dreadful webinars, and you certainly don’t want to be the one delivering one. How do you prepare? What sets a webinar apart from an in-person presentation? How do you keep your audience engaged and away from distractions like social media? The questions can be overwhelming, and the challenges are many.

In this session, discover what works and what doesn’t to keep your audience hooked. Learn how to avoid common pitfalls that trip up new presenters and find out what it takes to get invited back for more. Make your first (or next) webinar a standout success and leave your audience wanting more!

Member Spotlight:

UNF's Thomas G. Carpenter Library

We want to thank our host Dr. Deborah Williams and the entire staff of UNF's Thomas G. Carpenter Library for a warm welcome on our recent visit to the famous Tommy G's!

UNF's Library is buzzing with activity and innovation. Students use every corner of this well-planned and well-equipped space for both independent and collaborative learning, and the library is constantly evolving to meet student needs. In fact, we learned about several projects that are currently underway to reconfigure and expand the library space for new purposes.

On the 3rd floor, we visited the Virtual Learning Center and were guided through several VR experiences by librarians Beryl White-Bing and Lauren Odom. The VLC supports the academic programs at UNF by providing a wide variety of immersive experiences, including the Eartha M.M. White Experience, which was made possible by a 2023 NEFLIN Innovation Project.

We ended our visit with a tour of the Special Collections and University Archives Department led by Susan Swiatosz. Susan and her staff are building an excellent collection that focuses not only on the history of the University, but also on the entire Northeast Florida region. Projects in the works include the Allen Lastinger Center for Florida History, which we look forward to visiting upon its completion in 2025.

We left UNF energized and excited about the work going on in our NEFLIN libraries. The staff members at the Thomas G. Carpenter Library are investing all of their energy, creativity, and knowledge into serving their community, and they are reaping the reward of being the hub of student life at the University.

These projects were funded either under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act from the Institute of Museum and Library Services or the Library Cooperative Grant program. Florida’s LSTA and LCG programs are administered by the Department of State’s Division of Library and Information Services.

For FY2024-25, the total state and federal budgets for NEFLIN's programs are $703,693. 43% of the total costs ($303,693) are supported by federal funds, and 57% of this program ($400,000) is supported by state funds.
