News from Nebraska Health Information Initiative
|
|
NEHII recently joined forces with Unite Us, the technology company that connects health and social care providers, in a unique partnership called
UNITE NEBRASKA
. This innovative program will transform service delivery and coordinated care throughout our state and beyond. Unite Nebraska will enable the improvement of population-level health outcomes by creating a resource and referral system to effectively address social determinants such as safe housing, access to food, community-based resources and more. The program allows health care providers and community-based organizations the ability to electronically refer clients to the care they need, save time, and seamlessly track outcomes. In addition, Unite Nebraska provides visibility into patients’ and clients’ journeys as they seek and receive social services.
NEHII is proud to sponsor this ground-breaking program. This is one more value-added service available to clinicians and service providers in our state through the NEHII population health utility. Unite Nebraska is scheduled to go live in the Omaha/Council Bluffs and Lincoln metro areas in September and then rolled out across Nebraska into 2021. We’ll continue to keep you updated about Unite Nebraska as this initiative progresses.
Another 2020 focus for NEHII is advancing interoperability.
We are here to help you
navigate the final interoperability rules published May 1 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. NEHII is offering incentives to offset costs to payers, hospitals and health systems for participating in the NEHII network by June 30, 2020, and sharing data connections by September 30, 2020. Contact
support@nehii.org
for more information.
Although we are fully immersed in 2020 strategic initiatives, we want to share with you the story of NEHII’s 2019 success. Our
2019 Annual Report
is posted on nehii.org for your reference. I encourage you to take time to read about our achievements. Last year was extraordinary for NEHII, thanks in large part to your continued support.
Enabling a healthier Nebraska and the region through the availability of health information continues to be NEHII’s top priority. Please let us know how we can serve you better.

Migration to InterSystems continues
|
NEHII is migrating our core technology platform from Optum to InterSystems HealthShare. We’re making this change to ensure that NEHII is best positioned to deliver innovative services to you, such as unified health records and analytics.
Work is already underway. In fact, several build components are in progress with the InterSystems team. Many facilities have successfully connected to NEHII with their feeds via a VPN connection to InterSystems, and some current feeds have been migrated from Optum to InterSystems -- all in effort to move data to the new platform when ready for use. This allows for the connectivity to ensure that feeds and data are flowing properly.
For current participants who have completed the VPN build, NEHII will work to set a date to migrate feeds from Optum to InterSystems. NEHII users will continue using their Optum access to view patient records until the new clinical viewer within InterSystems is ready for use.
We have communicated via email to the IT contacts we have on file for our current participants about the VPN and feed migration to InterSystems. If you have not received these communications or need these sent to a different person, please let us know by contacting
IS@nehii.org
. We would like to begin working through this process with your facility as soon as possible.
Start thinking about who you want to identify as a “designated user” from your facility. This person will be responsible for provisioning users with appropriate user access roles, password resets and de-provisioning users no longer requiring access.
We will continue providing updates via this newsletter and other communications channels. If you have questions, reach out to
IS@nehii.org
and a team member will assist you.

E-Prescribing Solution:
Limited time, special offer
|
|
Attention, Nebraska Clinicians
|
Good news!
There’s a no-cost, real-time e-prescribing solution for you, just in time to meet the upcoming federal mandate.
NEHII and Nebraska’s Department of Health and Human Services have partnered with Daw Systems, Inc., a leading medical software developer specializing in e-prescribing, scheduling and electronic medical records, to introduce a tool called ScriptSure ERX Cloud Platform. (Not affiliated with Surescripts.)
ScriptSure ERX will assist you in meeting the upcoming federal mandate. The SUPPORT Act (Section 2003) requires that controlled substances for Medicare Part D beneficiaries be electronically prescribed beginning January 2, 2021. And, funds are available, for a limited time, to help you pay to get started with e-prescribing.
Here’s what you need to know:
- If you do not currently have an e-prescribing solution – or you’re considering changing to a new solution – and your practice is within Nebraska, you are eligible to receive a coupon that will pay the initial $385 annual subscription for ScriptSure ERX for the first year.
- After that, you pay an ongoing subscription fee of $385 per prescriber, per year. There are no additional fees; no fees per prescription.
- To qualify, you must implement by August 15, 2020.
- You do not need to be a data-sharing participant with NEHII’s health information exchange to take advantage of this special offer.
There’s also an option to integrate. This special offer also covers the cost of integrating the ScriptSure solution into your EHR/EMR if implemented by August 15, 2020. You would then pay the $500 annual maintenance fee. This integration option is valued at approximately $3,500.
If you’re interested in learning more about ScriptSure ERX,
complete this form
and a NEHII team member will contact you to walk you through the process.
