ELEVATE is a paid summer internship opportunity where Appalachian students and recent graduates will cultivate meaningful ties with Appalachia, ready themselves for fulfilling careers within the region and engage with local economic development partners within their communities.
Applications for our 2025 ELEVATE summer internship cohorts will open on December 12, 2024 and close on February 28, 2025.
Who Can Apply?

All current students and recent graduates attending a two- or four-year college or university in the Appalachian Region are eligible to apply.
- In alignment with ARC’s mission to help Appalachia reach socioeconomic parity with the rest of the nation, this internship encourages underrepresented student populations to apply, such as:
- Students and recent graduates of Appalachia’s 15 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).
- First-generation students and recent graduates.
- Students who live in, or are from, economically distressed or at-risk counties.
Internship Details
ELEVATE will select up to four students to spend eight weeks, from June 2 – July 25, 2025, at the ARC office in Washington, D.C.
ELEVATE interns will support one of four ARC divisions: 1.) Business and Workforce Investment, 2.) Division of Critical Infrastructure, 3.) the Office of General Counsel and 4.) Technical Assistance. Interns will select their division based on their interest areas and career goals.
In addition to being compensated for their work on engaging projects, ELEVATE interns receive employer-sponsored housing at a D.C. university, commuting benefits, and have educational explorations of D.C. landmarks.

NEPA Alliance has several loan programs available for small businesses located in Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties. |
These low-cost, low-interest loans offer reduced down payments and standard loan term maturities for machinery and equipment, land and building acquisition, construction and renovation. Loan rates are fixed and generally below the prime lending rate.
Eligible businesses include Manufacturers, Industrial, Agriculture/Agribusiness, Hospitality & Tourism Related Enterprises, Recyclers, Day Cares, Computer Related Services, Advanced Technology, and Retail and Service Related Businesses. Other business sectors may also qualify.

NEPA Alliance Business Finance Corporation is a state-wide CDC allowing for NEPA BFC to lend SBA 504 Loans to eligible small businesses located in Pennsylvania.
Financing Structure
A bank or other lender finances 50% of the project cost and takes a first lien position on the assets financed. The SBA 504 loan finances 40% of the project cost, up to $5.5 million, and takes a second lien position. The borrower then contributes a down payment of as little as 10%.
Small Businesses can receive:
- Subordinate Financing
- Up to 90% Loan to Value
- Up to $5.5 Million in SBA Financing
- Unlimited Total Project Cost
SBA 504 Loans offer:
- As Little as 10% Equity Injection
- Terms up to 25 Years

ICON Web Portal
The ICON web portal works closely with DLA to make the procurement process for metalcastings, forging, and machining simple and efficient. ICON works to monitor solicitations for the previous services and directs them to applicable facilities.
