NOVEMBER GREETINGS

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Another month has passed and another great meeting with it! Everyone seemed to enjoy Phillip Kawin's presentation.  Afterwards, he told me that he was very impressed with the energy and enthusiasm of NEPTA members.  We do have a great group, don't we?!

Many thanks to Natacha Rist for preparing the meeting minutes and to Caroline Ly-Germeys for uploading them to the website.
Meeting minutes will usually be uploaded to the
NEPTA website within two weeks of each meeting. Many thanks again to Ruth Ross for everything she does to make the music sales take place.  It was nice to see so many members arrive early to peruse the music and connect with one another.
Please note that there will be no music sale prior to the  November Teacher Exchange (but we will have refreshments!).

As we approach Thanksgiving, I'd like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the many devoted members that NEPTA is so fortunate to have.  I'm very excited that so many of you have offered to volunteer your time.  A full list of NEPTA volunteers will be included in the January newsletter.  For now, let me just say 'Thank You'!

Please note that it is not too soon to register to attend the Masterclass meeting which is scheduled for December 14th. More information (including where to send your check) is located in the "Looking Ahead" section of this newsletter.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Fall Teachers' Exchange at the Wellesley Library on November 23rd.  More information about this special meeting can be found by scrolling down to the next section of this newsletter which is entitled, "November 23 Teachers' Exchange".  I hope to see you there!  Please join us at 9:00 for refreshments and to meet our newest members!

Donna Gross Javel
NEPTA President

This meeting is also intended to provide an opportunity for us to meet our newest members. Many thanks to Dianne Impallaria, Chair of the Teacher Exchanges, who is planning the refreshments. Sarah's presentation will begin at 9:30 but the hall will open at 9:00. Please join us for coffee, tea and other goodies!

Location: Wellesley Free Library
Address: 530 Washington Street, Wellesley, MA 02482
Refreshments will be served beginning at 9:00AM

NEPTA MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
This month I'd like to introduce you to another valuable volunteer, Sivan Etedgee.  Sivan has served on the board of directors, has helped with the website and the Facebook page, and currently serves on the editions committee, the contemporary music committee, and the nominating committee.

Originally from Worcester, Massachusetts, Sivan Etedgee performs and teaches throughout the greater Boston area, giving over 30 performances each year to audiences of all ages. In April 2015 he had the pleasure of performing Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" with the University of New Hampshire Wind Symphony.

Sivan's research interests include classical music by Jewish composers, and music written during the Holocaust. Currently he is focusing on the piano music of Erwin Schulhoff.

Sivan has been on the faculty of the Newton Music Academy since 2008, has a home studio, and has taught at the University of New Hampshire during both the academic year and the Summer Youth Music School (SYMS).

He completed his M.M. degree in piano performance at Boston University with Anthony di Bonaventura, and has studied privately with Stephen Drury, Luiz de Moura Castro, and other
pianists.

Sivan lives in a rollicking little house in West Newton with his wife, his 5-month-old son, and his dog.

MUSIC SALE
Our Music Sale is back by popular demand, once again organized by Ruth Ross, Music Library and Donation Chair. Please join us prior to all regular meetings in September, October, January, February, March and May. Please note that the music sale takes place at The First Parish starting at 9AM. Members are asked to bring their checkbooks and any music that they are willing to donate that morning.

The sale serves three purposes:
  • Teachers have access to music that, perhaps, has gone out of print
  • Standard teaching methods and collections can be acquired at a very reasonable price
  • All proceeds go directly to the NEPTA Scholarship Fund

Please direct any questions to Ruth Ross at rrosspiano@aol.com.

PARKING ANNOUNCEMENTS
car-sales-lot2.jpg The Watertown Savings Bank has strongly requested that NEPTA members do not park in the bank parking lot for NEPTA events. Please be respectful of this neighboring business and leave the free parking for its clients.

Please be aware that Watertown has restricted parking on the side streets immediately surrounding the First Parish and thus eliminating any "free parking." The metered spots in the parking lot adjacent to the church can accept coins up to a maximum of 8 hours (blue meters only), thereby removing the need to go feed the meter during our meeting breaks, offering instead an opportunity to socialize with NEPTA friends and colleagues.
LOST AND FOUND
A new job description has been added to the roles of President and Vice President!

The staff at the First Parish has requested that NEPTA members do not contact the church office when they leave something at a NEPTA meeting. So, please, if you leave something at the meeting, contact either Donna Gross Javel or Ranko Konishi-Houston. Better yet, look carefully around you before you leave.
