Hello Neptuners,
I am writing you on this Saturday October 1st to announce that Neptune Comics will be closing it's doors forever by the end of this month.
Yes, it's true, after almost a 13 year run we are calling it quits. Lisa and I opened the doors on January 7, 2004. We wanted to have a store that went against all comic book store stereotypes. I think we achieve that goal and then-some. To those of you who have visited year after year, we thank you.
Neptune Comics has always been in the forefront of service and marketing in the comic book industry: entering our subscriptions in to a computer system for less errors, theater screen advertising, cable television advertising, Southeastern Wisconsin's first full eCommerce web site for comic book retail, book clubs, cheesy movie nights, charity drives, TV/movie premiers, theme parties, Kids Club, delivery service, in store signings, and Skype chats with comic book and animation professionals. We have done all this and more.
Unfortunately though, all the work that we put in never put us in a great financial position, but we did it for the love of the medium, and our customers, and always hoped things would eventually get better. Slowly throughout the years the gap widened, and the hole deepened. While we were able to live (very modestly) and support an employee, we were never able to pay down our debt or contribute to any retirement fund. Every day has been a juggling act just keeping our head above water. I have made the decision to stop digging the hole, and stop trying to juggle all the balls in the air. The stress was impacting my health physically and mentally and sadly my best choice for the future is to close down the store.
Here I am asking the Neptune Universe once again for help. Starting today, October 1st, we are going to start liquidating our inventory and sell our fixtures. I am hoping that by selling everything we can pay off most of the debts we have incurred in the past few years. Below is the discount structure on how we are going to handle things.
10% off from today through Oct 7th 20% from October 8th-14th. 30% from October15th-21st. Starting the 22nd we will increase the discount 10% each day: 22nd 40%, 23rd 50%, 25th 60% etc until either we have nothing left or the end of the month.
While the higher percentages off are great for the consumer may I ask you to come in and get items at 10-20% off as we are trying to collect as much money to pay off as much debt as possible. And of course the best items are likely to sell first.
We will take credit cards up until the 21st. Then we will ask for cash only as we have to pay a fee for every credit care transaction we run. If you have a subscription box here at Neptune we will hold your books until October 14th, after that day we will put whatever books we are holding out on the sales floor.
Obviously the Neptune Rewards program is discontinued - you cannot use points on purchases as we close down. If you still have a Neptune gift card you can, and should, use that up before it's just a collector's item.
What does the future hold for Craig and Shane? Well, we are both seeking new opportunities. If you know someone looking for former comic book guys please pass our names to them, or let us know how to contact them.
Thank you for all the fun, and years of being our customers. We will miss you all.
