Features of Effective Math Instruction
Educators from Devils Lake, Mt. Pleasant-Rolla, Maddock, Midkota, and Minnewaukan School Districts engaged in the NESC's Features of Effective Math Instruction workshop October 28th and 29th. This workshop provided participants with an in-depth exploration of explicit systematic instruction and an opportunity for Math curriculum analysis.
An additional Math professional learning opportunity is available to NESC educators in November. Three webinars will be facilitated by Dr. Nathan Lang-Raad (November 12, 13, and 14) as part of the Driving Math Success series. See below for registration details!

Ron Clark Book Study
The NESC Community of Practice has embraced learning, collaboration, and leadership through the Ron Clark Book Study! Following the book, The Excellent 11, our participating schools' leadership teams (nearly 100 member educators strong!) meet monthly to apply their reading through sharing of ideas and planning for application within their schools. These energized and forward-thinking individuals are helping enhance school culture and maintain our "1% Better" focus!

Lights on Afterschool
During October, more than 8,000 afterschool programs and one million supporters nationwide celebrated the 25th annual Lights On Afterschool event. The NESC 21st Century Community Learning Centers acknowledged the occasion with many sites hosting Lights On Afterschool student art displays and utilizing activity kits provided to each site by the Afterschool Alliance.

ND Science of Reading Hotline
The new ND SoR Hotline is an open forum series facilitated by the South East Education Cooperative over Zoom. This series offers time and virtual space to connect and collaborate for 90 minutes, once a month while providing ND SoR updates.

Paraeducator Online Training is available as a school-wide program with this NO COST opportunity. Paraeducators and tutors will have access to 150+ self-paced modules covering general education and special education environments. Learning modules typically ranges from 45-60 minutes in length, can be accessed using any platform day or night, and can be personalized to fit each individual within your system.

NDSCA is excited to announce the opening of nominations for the School Counselor of the Year.
This award honors counselors in our state who are running comprehensive school counseling programs at any level (elementary, middle, or high school), supporting student success and actively leading in their school district. If you know a school counselor that should be recognized for their work consider a SCOY nomination.
The winner will be recognized at the NDCA conference in February and will be submitted for the ASCA school counselor of the year.
