More Convenient, Less Downtime:
Onsite Calibration from A-Rent Test Equipment
| |
| |
Since launching onsite calibration services last fall, A-Rent has seen rapid adoption across utilities, contractors, and NETA member firms. Demand has been driven by two main outcomes: greater convenience and reduced equipment downtime in the field.
A-Rent’s team of engineers deliver NIST-traceable calibration services directly at the customer’s facility using the same proven procedures and standards as our labs, eliminating most shipping costs and complexity. Calibration projects that may take weeks with other service providers are completed in just days, sometimes in a single day, even for large fleets of test equipment.
Beyond the fast turnaround, A-Rent customers gain real-time visibility into asset performance. Failed items are identified with clear recommendations. Optional repair or RMA support keeps assets moving towards field readiness. QR-coded stickers provide instant access to calibration certificates, simplifying compliance and recordkeeping.
A-Rent’s approach to calibration is clear. We do not simply apply stickers. We verify full functional accuracy and help customers maintain confidence and reliability in their equipment. Onsite scheduling is filling quickly as more companies shift to this model. Call, email, or visit our website to get on the calendar today.

Enhancing Field Diagnostics with the Spark P2: A Handheld Solution for PD Measurements and Surveys
By Falk Werner, Solutions Director PD & EMI at Doble Engineering
| | | |
Reliable and accurate diagnostics are essential for reliable asset performance and maintaining power grid integrity. Detecting insulation issues early is crucial to preventing costly failures, unplanned outages, and potential damage to infrastructure. As energy infrastructure grows more complex, field engineers and technicians face increasing challenges in maintaining high-voltage asset reliability. Traditional testing methods—requiring multiple diagnostic tools and specialized knowledge—often hinder timely detection and corrective actions.
Enter the Spark P2, the latest innovation from Doble. This handheld partial discharge (PD) and radio frequency interference (RFI) measurement device combines advanced technology with user-friendly features, setting a new standard for in-service testing. Designed with field technicians, engineers, and subject matter experts alike in mind, the Spark P2 delivers advanced diagnostic capabilities in a hand-held format—helping teams proactively address insulation deterioration before it leads to critical equipment failure.

Intellirent has an extensive rental inventory of the most modern infrared cameras. Using an infrared camera for inspecting large power transformers is a proactive maintenance strategy that can significantly extend equipment lifespan and enhance operational safety. Regular monitoring enables the identification of issues before they escalate into costly repairs or failures.
The primary advantage of IR technology on transformers lies in its safety as a diagnostic tool while the device is energized. From a safe distance, you can capture images of bushings, cooling systems, and ground connections to ensure grounding points are intact, as inadequate grounding can lead to overheating. If an infrared image reveals a hot spot at the top of the bushing, it is usually indicative of a loose or potentially corroded terminal that requires further inspection. If the heat source appears at the bottom, it could signify a more serious internal condition within the transformer, such as loose or poor connections, and further testing may be required.
For more detailed information on specific aspects, such as the types of infrared cameras or common issues encountered in transformers, please contact our team of technical experts at 888-902-6111.
