This month we'll be telling you about a recent coir envelope project for Save the Bay in Newport Rhode Island.  This is the second time NETCO has completed a project for the organization which is devoted to preserving the beauty of Narragansett Bay.

In Beach Notes we've provided you with links to 3 upcoming coastal conferences. We'll be attending all 3 and will exhibit at the Northeast Conference and perhaps one of the others as well --we'll let you know in the next newsletter.

We hope you find our newsletter  interesting and enjoyable and, as always, we welcome your feedback!

A NETCO Project: Helping to Save the Bay

With a lovely view of beautiful Newport Bridge and Harbor, King Park Beach in Newport, RI has been eroding slowly over the years and more quickly during storms such as Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

Save The Bay, a nonprofit advocacy group dedicated to protecting Narragansett Bay, recently hired NETCO to install coir envelopes as a "soft" solution to reduce the erosion at King Park Beach in Newport.

Wenley Ferguson, Director of Restoration at Save the Bay, worked on the pilot project with Hugo Urbina, NETCO's Project Manager for erosion control.

Hugo led the NETCO team in the installation a 210 foot coir envelope along the beach where it meets the grassy shore. Rather than using hard, stone revetments, these "softer" materials encourage sand accretion and result in reduced wave reflection.
