Message from NETS' Executive Director,

My son used to be part of a high school rowing club—sometimes known as Crew. He was one of eight people in the boat, plus a coxswain (pronounced [ˈkäks(ə)n] for those not familiar with the term for the person in charge of the boat who steers it.) Not once during the many practices and regattas I watched did my son row by himself. It was everyone in the boat working together to cross that finish line, racing against other boats on a collaborative mission to get to the finish line. Do you know why? Because as the saying goes, there is no I in Team!
Just as in rowing, road safety is a team effort. We cannot reduce crashes, eliminate injuries, and keep our employees and family members safe by going it alone. NETS is the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety for a reason—we network and share best practices; we collaborate to advance road safety; and we benchmark to compare road safety programs with others to determine how we measure up.
NETS members are currently submitting data and providing program survey responses for our annual NETS Benchmark report. The information they submit will be analyzed and compiled into our final Strength IN Numbers Benchmark Report® where each company can look at their own crash metrics and road safety program elements to compare with others and identify best practices to put into place for a cost-effective, integrated, and comprehensive plan to improve their road safety performance. You can’t manage what you don’t measure.
In addition, we recently announced the dates and location of our annual 2022 Strength IN Numbers® Fleet Safety Benchmark Conference. The conference will be a hybrid event in order to afford everyone an opportunity to participate—whether in-person or virtually. This annual event is a chance to network with other fleet safety experts and advocates, share best practices, discuss the latest trends and issues, and collaborate across industry sectors to advance road safety for everyone. Also this year, attendees will be able to join us for a tour at MCity and UMTRI to learn the latest in vehicle technology research including connected and autonomous vehicle developments. I invite you to join us October 5-6 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to network and collaborate with NETS members and other road safety advocates.
All of us dedicated to road safety have the same mission—to save lives and reduce injuries on the world’s roadways. If you’re not already a NETS member, consider joining today so we can network, collaborate, and benchmark together as a team.
