Greetings NETS Members and Road Safety Professionals,

I hope this finds everyone safe and doing well after what has clearly been a challenging first half of the year. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the lives and routines of many, and this uncertain environment has been a time of reflection on how we manage both our day-to-day as well as strategic approach across our businesses. These changes have also had a direct impact on NETS as we recently made the decision to shift our annual Strength IN Numbers® Benchmark Conference to a VIRTUAL event the week of October 12th in order to maximize the health and well-being of all involved. Efforts are well underway in planning the conference and we are excited about the unique and creative opportunities a VIRTUAL environment will present for everyone. Conference details have been extensively discussed with the NETS Board of Directors and we are eager to engage valued members, NETS Sponsors and road safety advocates alike during the conference proceedings.

Commitments from a number of impressive keynote speakers and other road safety professionals have been received and further details will be announced in the coming days and weeks. NETS Sponsor engagement will also remain a priority as technical expertise and “solutions” brought to conference participants from our valued Sponsors remains as important as ever during these challenging times. An additional area of focus — and notable highlight of the year — has been the collection of NETS annual benchmark data from our employer members. I am pleased to announce that we received record response and participation in our 2020 NETS Benchmark collection effort. This is an impressive undertaking considering the additional work demands and challenges many NETS member companies have experienced the past several months during the pandemic. In the coming weeks, Benchmark data will be turned over to our NETS statistician as well as our friends and colleagues with the National Safety Council who will begin their detailed review and analysis. Key findings will be used to identify fleet safety program practices associated with lower collision and injury rates. Members can then pinpoint best practices to put in place a cost-effective, integrated, and comprehensive plan to improve their road safety performance. The final benchmark report and overall summary will be shared with NETS member companies in time for the virtual conference this year.
