Virginia Maupin holds the floor plan of the new
NETWORK of Community Ministries building.
The room marked in red will be named in her honor.

It was recently announced that the NETWORK of Community Ministries has purchased a piece of property to serve as their new location. After years of working in very crowded conditions, NETWORK will soon be able to spread out and offer expanded services to our neighbors during times of need. As a part of their effort to buy this property and to make the necessary improvements to the existing building, they have been offering naming opportunities. Recently the Session of FPC decided to pledge a minimum of $25,000 toward this building campaign. Learn more about the new building by clicking here.

The FPCR Session also made the decision that our multi-year gift would be made in honor of Virginia Maupin, former FPCR Church Administrator, ruling elder, and long-time faithful member. It is particularly appropriate that a room be named for Virginia since she was a critically important voice in the original committee that developed the idea for an organization that could pool resources and volunteers in order to serve our neighbors. Virginia served on the founding board for NETWORK and helped it to become a reality for our community. The picture above was taken last week, on Virginia's birthday, as she was informed of the Session's commitment.

The room that will carry Virginia's name will be the Reception Office, which is right off the main reception area. This office will be staffed by volunteers and it will have a window that will serve as the first stop for NETWORK clients. A plaque on the door will denote that the room was made possible by a donation from First Presbyterian Church of Richardson, in Virginia Maupin's honor. Click here for a closer look at the new NETWORK building floor plan and to see where the room will be located.

The FPCR Session has already identified funds that will be used to fulfil most of our multi-year pledge. These monies will come from endowment earnings and ministry surpluses that have been earmarked for mission ministries. In this way, our whole congregation is contributing to this valuable community ministry. No existing memorial funds have been committed to this gift. We are excited to be a part of this new phase for the NETWORK and we will continue to share news regarding the new location and volunteer opportunities as those develop.
