SNMPv3 is capable of supporting message integrity checks, authentication to verify a sender’s identity, and encryption to protect data confidentiality. This Internet Protocol (IP) version introduces granular access control through the View-Based Access Control Model (VACM) in order to associate users with specific MIB views. SNMPv3 is a transition away from the previous implementations based on Community Strings over to a more secure User-Based Model for establishing communications.
