Dear Members -
Southern California communities are facing unprecedented challenges due to the devastating fires throughout Los Angeles County. Thousands of families have lost their homes, businesses, schools, and their very lives have been tragically uprooted. During these difficult times, it is crucial for the building industry to take action and provide support with expedited policy solutions to help address this crisis, which will affect the entire Southern California region.
Given the magnitude of these tragic events, it is important to recognize that a "business as usual" approach to this crisis is not the answer if we are going to build safe and attainable housing within our regional counties.
BIASC CRISIS RESPONSE
Our advocacy teams are actively collaborating with elected officials at a local and regional level to develop a policy framework for rebuilding homes and communities. Your participation is essential as we finalize our new housing crisis policy, which will be officially submitted to LA County and released within the next few days.
As you know, despite California's ongoing efforts to resolve the housing policy crisis, we consistently recognized that the system is broken and that substantial pro-housing reforms are necessary to create a safer and more attainable housing supply. Our advocacy team and homebuilders have identified specific streamlining solutions that will make a positive difference in eliminating the burdensome layers of government red tape for the fire-affected areas and the surrounding counties, providing necessary regulatory relief to address the critical need for housing.
ADVOCACY IN ACTION
In the very near future, we will invite all BIASC members to volunteer for our Advocacy in Action program, which will include new educational and outreach programs to support our new housing policy agenda.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
In addition, the BIA will be enlisting members to participate in our new Ambassador program, which aims to support displaced families in their difficult journey of rebuilding their homes and communities. If you are interested in volunteering for either of these two programs, please email Lisa Meadows at lmeadows@biasc.org.
Today, as we honor and thank our heroic firefighters, first responders, and public servants who continue to battle through this crisis, it's time for us as an industry to unite and do our part.
This crisis is far from over, but with your help, together we can make a meaningful difference.
