Your BIA LA/V Chapter Update: May 2025

BIA Los Angeles/Ventura Chapter Members -

Dear Colleagues,

The devastation caused by the Eaton and Palisades Fires is almost beyond comprehension—thousands of structures lost, businesses destroyed, and countless lives forever changed. For the people of Altadena and Pacific Palisades, recovery isn't just about rebuilding homes; it’s about restoring hope, stability, and community.

It’s been over 120 days since the fires, and yet the wheels of government continue to turn slowly—even in the face of crisis. But our industry is ready. Ready to lead, ready to act, and ready to build.

Recently, the Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC) sent a delegation to Washington, D.C., to advocate for our members and the broader homebuilding industry. Our team participated in 20 high-level meetings, engaging directly with the White House, federal agencies, and bipartisan members of Congress to ensure our priorities are heard and understood at the highest levels.

At home, our PAC held its first strategy session for the upcoming election cycle. We're focused on strengthening our voice locally, and your involvement is critical. One of the best ways to build that strength is by expanding our membership—so please, invite your subcontractors and colleagues to join us.

Looking ahead, we have some exciting events on the horizon:

Monday, June 2nd: Our Annual Golf Tournament returns to the beautiful Industry Hills Golf Club.

Tuesday, August 26th: We’ll head to Chavez Ravine to cheer on the World Champion Dodgers as they take on the Cincinnati Reds for our annual Dodgers Baseball Night.

Let’s continue to focus on collaboration, communication, and unity as we move forward together in 2025.

Onward,

Nathan Keith

BIASC Leadership Advocacy Trip to Washington, D.C. – A Powerful Voice for Southern California

We’re excited to share highlights from our recent and impactful trip to Washington, D.C., where the Building Industry Association of Southern California (BIASC) led a strong advocacy effort on behalf of the homebuilding industry.

Our key priorities during the visit included:

  • Addressing the ongoing housing policy crisis in Southern California

  • Advocating for increased federal support to help Los Angeles County rebuild in the wake of recent devastating wildfires

During the trip, BIASC participated in 20 high-level meetings, engaging directly with officials at the White House, federal agencies, and bipartisan members of both the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

This trip reaffirms our unwavering commitment to shaping a favorable legal and regulatory environment for our industry and expanding housing opportunities throughout the region.

We were especially encouraged by the bipartisan support from elected officials who recognize the urgency of the housing crisis and are committed to working with us to drive solutions. BIASC remains fully dedicated to championing our members and our mission across all levels of government.

Altadena One-Stop Shop for Rebuilding Permits Moves Forward

We’re proud to announce a major win for rebuilding efforts in Los Angeles County: On April 8, 2025, the L.A. County Board of Supervisors

unanimously approved a resolution supporting the creation of a Unified Permitting Authority at the newly launched Altadena One-Stop Recovery Permitting Center.

This initiative directly responds to the urgent need to accelerate recovery in Altadena following the Eaton Fire, which destroyed over 9,000 structures and displaced thousands of residents.

Highlights of the Board’s Decision:

  • Unified Permitting Authority: This new body will have the power to make final decisions on rebuilding permits for fire-impacted properties, cutting through red tape and eliminating delays caused by interdepartmental disagreements.

  • Streamlined Rebuilding Process: The One-Stop Center will resolve code conflicts, regulatory overlaps, and departmental differences—creating a clear, efficient path for permit approvals.

  • Coordinated Recovery Team: Senior representatives from the Departments of Public Works, Regional Planning, Fire, and Public Health will be stationed at the center, ensuring faster turnaround and seamless coordination.

  • For BIASC members and the broader community, this marks a critical step forward in rebuilding efforts—providing urgently needed support and restoring hope for the residents of Altadena.

We will continue to keep our members informed as this initiative progresses. Thank you for standing together as we work to rebuild stronger, smarter, and faster—together.
