October 26, 2023 - Issue #1

Hello Barbara,

I thought it was about time to reconnect with clients and fans and colleagues, meet some new ones and publish a 'brilliant' and colorful monthly newsletter for you! So here is the first issue.

Each month you will find a few presentation and storytelling tips, what's going on with my coaching business, and I will share some adventures in my Animal Ambulance volunteer activities. I will drop in some personal stories to inspire you and make you smile.

Please share it with your network - because everybody really does need a Barbara.

Warm regards,

Barbara

A Few Presentation Tips from Your Favorite

Speaker Coach

PRESENTATION TIP #1

USE BRIDGES OFTEN

You want your presentation to flow smoothly from one key concept to another. Use bridge statements in your preparation as a tool for UNITY. Statements like:

"I told you about what we did in the past, now I want to share with you what we are doing about this problem today". (Introducing a solution)

"Let me tell you about one of our clients and how we helped to solve their problem..."

A bridge is a small, but very useful tool to use in every transition and to start every story.

STORYTELLING TIP #2

PRACTICE THE STORY, TOO

When you want to tell a story to a business audience, you need to know who your hero is and follow the journey -

like in a fairytale or movie:

Beginning - Identify problem with expressive words

Middle - hero enters the scene, struggles to overcome the problem and brings the transformation and happily ever after.

Ending - Show by doing this, there hero could save the day for the company or the client.

We love to hear stories of heroes and how they overcome the dragons. Make your stories "stick" with good preparation and practice.

CRAZY SPEAKER TIP #3

BRAINFREEZE?

TAKE A WALK

Oh no! You prepared well - or not - and at a certain moment, you forget the next thing to say or have a brain freeze! We all have had this happen at one time or another.

What do you do to recover?

You take a pause of a few seconds...

and MOVE AROUND a little bit, if you can to allow your brain to 'unlock' and reconnect with the rest of you and go on. Don't really walk around the room, but movement and rotating your shoulders from front to back really helps!

Stay cool in your expressions, breathe , move a bit and NEVER say sorry!

BEHIND THE SCENES

As a speaker coach, I have the honor of working with so many interesting people. When I met Anna, she was, indeed, not having much confidence in herself. I taught her how to do a strong presentation, tell stories that stick, how to stand up for yourself and most importantly, how to 'own' her accomplishments and her position in the company. She is passionate about diversity and inclusion and created an amazing program to help people feel accepted and heard.

Our many conversations, as we are similar in age, were full of laughter and learning and truth about who we are and what we are here to do in the world. It was a sacred experience.

When she was nominated for the prestigious MCA award, I was so happy and proud of her. We had a few talks to prepare. She had many supporters who helped her on this journey.

AND SHE WON! - Read her comments to the right. I feel proud to have played a small part in her development.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

From Anna Nation at Atos Digital" Transformation Consulting

MCA Inclusion Award Winner 2023

"I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working with Barbara recently as I was experiencing challenges with self-confidence. After our very first conversation, I felt that Barbara ‘got me’.

She has a deep understanding of my industry but was also keen to hear about my personal journey. This meant that we were able to construct a tailored plan to suit my circumstances.

Barbara shared some valuable tools and tips but also gave me a safe space in which to practice. Her feedback was always warm yet constructive, and I now feel able to prepare and deliver more confidently whilst still being me.

Thank you Barbara for helping me find my voice."
