VICTORY ALERT: Housing Project Moves Forward in Whittier

BIA-LAV was happy to help support the passage of a Brandywine Homes' housing project in Whittier! In September, the Planning Commission approved the project, and last month the project faced the City Council. BIA-LAV provided public comment at both meetings, and the housing proposal was ultimately passed! The project will create 25 detached, single-family condominiums for the community and help reduce the City's housing shortfall.

City of Ventura Considers Codifying Expiring Streamlining Ordinance

Last year, with BIA's support, the City of Ventura passed an Emergency Streamlining Ordinance. The Ordinance was introduced as an emergency provision in response to COVID-19, and included a sunset date. On November 3, the Planning Commission will deliberate on whether or not to extend the Ordinance indefinitely. BIA will be speaking in support of this measure. Joshua Tree Endangered Species Candidacy

ICYMI: Last year, the BIA Baldy View chapter and the BIA-LAV chapter began working together to understand the Joshua Tree endangered species candidacy and its effects on our homebuilders. Through 2021, we have continued to coordinate with local jurisdictions, policy and environmental experts to pursue a pathway of mitigation to ensure greater certainty in the permit approval process. Despite our efforts, during this candidacy time, counties and local cities cannot issue a permit to take (by removal or transplanting) any Joshua tree. BIA-LAV EVENTS & COMMITTEES

On October 28, BIASC held a Housing Strategy Summit & VIP Reception a the Lyons Air Museum! The reception was held in special commemoration of General William Lyon. In addition to the reception there were multiple panels on housing, ranging from data and technology, threats against the industry, an executive builder discussion, and a County Supervisors roundtable. BIASC also honored Assemblymember Sharon Quirk-Silva for her work in stopping SB 12. BIA-LAV's Chapter members had a great showing and the event was a wonderful success!
