VICTORY ALERT: Housing Project Moves Forward in LA County
Royal Vista Golf Course Project
BIA-LAV assisted a Member project, the Royal Vista Golf Course located in Rowland Heights. The development was facing an appeal of their review process brought on by NIMBYs. However, thanks to many of you, our Click to Action letter generating advocacy efforts were successful. On October 19, the Supervisors' voted 5-0 to deny the appeal! We are proud to see this project move forward. Learn more here.
LA County Housing Element Postponed
Last month, the LA County Planning Commission unanimously passed the draft Housing Element. BIA testified and submitted a letter sharing our industry concerns. The Board of Supervisors was set to hear the Element on October 19, however the item was postponed until November 2. BIA is most concerned with the balance between sustainability goals and reasonable housing production, and the impact of a Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) program on housing approval. BIA will be testifying and sending an updated letter for the November hearing.
State Legislative Housing Tour - LA County Stop
BIA-LAV was happy to participate in the newly formed Assembly Housing Working Group's statewide Housing Tour. State Assemblymembers hosted these roundtables to examine barriers and explore solutions to the State’s housing production and affordability crisis. BIA-LAV made comments asking that market rate developers be a part of the process when considering these critical housing opportunities and challenges. We hope to continue working with this Working Group to bring our industry perspective to the discussion.
City of Ventura Considers Inclusionary Zoning
The City of Ventura has been working on developing an Inclusionary Housing Program (IHP) for several years. On October 8, the City held a stakeholder working group to discuss the components of a future program and get feedback from the development community. Discussion points included, an in-lieu fee option, potential variability of fabrication and design, and on-site or off-site construction. We will be hosting a BIA specific meeting with City staff and our County of Ventura Committee.
BIA-LAV EVENTS & COMMITTEES
On October 18, BIA held our 8th Annual Trap & Skeet Shoot Tournament. Thank you to all of the participants and teams! We hosted over 100 shooters, held a raffle, and provided a networking lunch! This event would not have been possible without our committee co-chairs: Karl Mallick with David Evans and Associates, Inc. , Rocco Cordola and Krysti Irving with Gothic Landscape!
