Hey, friend! Thanks for subscribing to our monthly Brewsletter. We feel like so much has happened since we spoke last. Read on to get the low-down on what's been tap-pening with Castle Danger during the past month and what you can look forward to in the month ahead. Cheers!

You know you're from Minnesota when 65 degrees and sunny is almost too warm. It's summertime, friends. The patio umbrellas have been dusted off and we're ready for business.

To keep up with demand, the brewery has been cranking out Summer Crush and Honey Raspberry Wheat like there's no tomorrow. Both brews are limited so make sure you take advantage of this fleeting season while you can.

Summer Crush has a pleasant lemon flavor and aroma from using Sorachi Ace hops, which is a defining characteristic of this Japanese hop variety. The malted barley lends a slightly sweet, biscuity backbone. Summer Crush is a sessionable beer and is our take on a Shandy without being one.

Honey Raspberry Wheat has a crisp, floral aroma with hints of rich berry which are balanced by a smooth wheat/malt body. Honey Raspberry Wheat rounds out nicely with a lighter body and a dry finish.

Both Summer Crush and Honey Raspberry Wheat are available at bars and restaurants around Minnesota. Summer Crush is also available at liquor stores in 12oz 6-packs so you can #crushit while you're out on the boat. Check out the Beer Finder on our website to see where you can get these brews in your neck of the woods.

The Governor announced a special session at the legislature on Friday, May 24. The session was completed at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25. Due to the limited time frame of the special session and the amount of work that remained from the regular session, very few bills were passed. We worked to raise the growler cap, but no liquor legislation moved forward; the liquor omnibus bills were stalled in both houses.

It is with heavy hearts that we tell you that come October 1, 2019 Castle Danger Brewery will no longer be able to sell growlers of any size from our taproom in Two Harbors. We want to thank you for all of the lobbying you have done on our behalf this legislative session. This fight is far from over and we're going to need your continued support leading up to, and during, the 2020 legislative session.

We are working on a clear plan for how to get the growler cap raised in 2020 and will be sharing this via our growler information newsletter in the coming weeks. Please sign up for the newsletter to stay informed.
17 7th STREET

We did some spring cleaning and updated our wardrobe to include some fresh new looks for summer. To see the full lineup, head to our website or come and see it in person at our taproom. The clothing that we offer is inspired by the North Shore in design, color, and layering ability.

You drank the beer, now help us plant some trees! In addition to purchasing 2,500 seedlings, a portion of the proceeds of the White Pine Project IPA purchased around 40 young white pines. With the help of Lake County Soil and Water, these trees are going to be planted at the Burlington Bay Campground right in Two Harbors. Let’s get planting!

  • Where: Burlington Bay Campground, meet at the Visitor Center Parking Lot
  • When: Saturday, June 8th at 10:00 am until all trees are planted (plan on several hours.) Feel free to come for a couple hours or to stay until the job is done.
  • What to bring: Plenty of water, snacks/lunch, work gloves, shovel (if you have one but some will be provided), sunscreen, and any other outdoor gear you may need. Be prepared to get dirty!

All ages are welcome. Children under 18 must have adult supervision. As always, if you volunteer you get a beer!

Our Pints for a Cause program is donating to Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center for the entire month of May. Stop in every Wednesday and $1 of every pint sold will go to the organization. It's a great way to feel good about drinking beer. See you on Wednesday.

She may be tiny but she is fierce! If you've stopped by our taproom on Lake Superior, chances are you've met this bartender extraordinaire. Donna is a key member of our taproom staff and is a caring, wonderful woman through-and-through. Here's a little more about our friend, Donna.

What do you do here?
I am a Taproom Assistant. I get to serve, educate, and give our customers a fun experience when they visit.

How long have you been working with us?
3 years.

Why were you interested in working for Castle Danger?
I used to bartend back in college and I loved the interaction with people in the service industry. After being a stay-at-home mom for a few years, I was ready to get back into the world of serving customers again.

What is your favorite part about your job?
Customer interaction and educating customers. I truly love my job and being able to talk to people all day! I also have to say we have the best team around. Everyone I work with is amazing and a ton of fun!

What is your favorite Castle Danger beer? What is your favorite beer outside of Castle Danger?
I didn’t drink ANY beer when I started CDB (I know… I know...) but now I’m a huge fan.  George Hunter Stout is a favorite and also the Ode IPA. Outside of CDB would be Fair State Brewing Cooperative and I’m also a Venn Brewery fan.

What do you do for fun outside of work?
Anything and everything outdoors. Specifically, hiking and biking.

Do you have any hidden talent? If so, what is it?
I have crazy multi-tasking skills. *Can confirm - she does!

What is on your playlist right now?
Nathaniel Rateliff right now and always Van Morrison.

Are you a salty or a sweet person?
Salty! Give me all of the cheese and crackers (or chips and salsa)! *For the record, we have to say that Donna is a very SWEET person who likes salty snacks.

What sport would you compete in if you were in the Olympics?

Describe one crazy moment or memory you've had at Castle Danger.
Realizing that I walked 18 miles and worked 22 hours during the last Anniversary Weekend! I would do it again in a heartbeat. Just give me the next day off... *For you, Donna, we'll consider it.

Our taproom would be missing something if we didn't have this tiny, brave, and kindhearted gal serving you dangerously good ales. The next time you stop by 17 7th Street and you see Donna working, be sure to tell her how awesome she is!
