Join art historian and television personality Rocky Ruggiero and NSU Art Museum Director and Chief Curator, Bonnie Clearwater, for “Sensational Spaces: Giotto, Rothko and Schnabel” as they once again explore how the pictorial space created by Renaissance painters influenced contemporary artists. In this talk they will show how early Renaissance master Giotto inspired Mark Rothko and Julian Schnabel.

Rocky Ruggiero is a professor of Art and Architectural History and an expert on Italian Renaissance art who has lectured at numerous universities throughout the United States and Italy. His television appearances include the History Channel documentaries, Engineering an Empire: Da Vinci’s World and Museum Secrets: the Uffizi Gallery, and the NOVA PBS program Great Cathedral Mystery. Bonnie Clearwater, Director and Chief Curator NSU Art Museum, was the curator of The Mark Rothko Foundation, and has written extensively on his work, including Mark Rothko: Works on Paper (Hudson Hills) and The Rothko Book (Tate). She was a contributing author to Julian Schnabel: Versions of Chuck and Other Works (Derneburg) and an upcoming monograph on Schnabel (Taschen). Bonnie Clearwater
