PEACE Camps
One of the best parts of summers at Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) is our PEACE Summer Camps (PEACE stands for Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment). The children who participate have one thing in common – they have all witnessed abuse in the home. But when they take part in these one or two-week specialized, integrated, counselling and recreational day camps, they get a chance to heal, learn, meet new friends, and have tons of fun all at the same time. Mornings were filled with psycho-educational group learning about topics like feelings, families, boundaries, anger, self-esteem and more. After enjoying a healthy picnic, pizza or other yummy lunch provided by our funding partners, afternoons were all about simply being a kid.
Our latest PEACE program finished last week and it was a new format for our daycampers – an Eco Camp! Run just like our usual PEACE camps (with psycho-educational group learning in the mornings), the afternoons centred around nature activities. Participants spent time at the beach, the Beacon Hill Petting Zoo, the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea, and the Bug Zoo. Their final day was spent on an eco cruise with Sea Star EcoCruising Society. Thank you to Island Health and all our Camp supporters for the funding to make this special camp happen.

We're Grateful for Your Efforts
A couple of months ago, the Emergency Shelter welcomed three different volunteer groups for spring cleaning at the Emergency Shelter. We would like to express our gratitude for the amazing work done by all of the participants – they all helped to make the Shelter warm and welcoming for residents.
Each of these groups were the result of different initiatives. A group from the British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI) took part as part of a corporate initiative; another group came as part of the Saanich Baptist’s Church’s “Serve the City” event; and the final group was organized by one of our steadfast volunteers who helps with maintenance at the shelter year-round.
These groups weeded, painted, dusted, washed walls, power washed, and so much more to make the Shelter a cleaner and more welcoming space for those who need it most. It was inspiring to see different groups from the Victoria community come out to support our mission. Your support not only helped improve our facility but also uplifted the spirits of everyone at the Shelter.
Are you interested in volunteering as part of your organization, or with family and friends? Contact Danielle, the VWTH Volunteer Coordinator, at danielled@vwth.bc.ca for more information.

Our thanks to the Huntingdon Hotel & Suites and the Pendray Inn for hosting a delicious outdoor Canada Day pancake breakfast and for the donations collected at the event from community supporters.
Our heartfelt thanks also to Heirloom Linens and their customers for funds raised during the May promotion in support of Transition House.
Thank you to the Norgaard Foundation, the Rotary Club of Victoria-Harbourside and Peninsula Co-op as well as thoughtful individual donors for contributing to our children’s PEACE Camps program.
And thank you to many community groups and local small businesses for their support over the last few months donating everything from blankets and bathrobes; to cupcakes and cosmetic bags. We also appreciate donations raised from community and corporate events, milestone life events (birthdays, anniversaries, celebration of life) and other initiatives – including the recent Virtual Fitness Challenge, an Island Health/Virtual Care Services team-building event.
