Jump Start Your Own Analysis Using the DRC’s Ready-to-Drive 2023-2024 NSCH Datasets and Codebooks

Prepared datasets that move evidence into practice.

Available on CAHMI’s Data Resource Center.

The Data Resource Center for Child and Adolescent Health (DRC), a project of the Child and Adolescent Health Measurement Initiative (CAHMI), in collaboration with the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB), is excited to announce the release of the 2023-2024 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH) datasets and codebooks. These analysis-ready datasets and codebooks (plus additional resources) are available through childhealthdata.org and are designed to help you move quickly from question to insight!

The 2023-2024 NSCH datasets, available in SAS, SPSS, Stata, and CSV, include data from 106,537 children ages 0-17 years. The DRC codebooks, accompanying each dataset, provide the programming code and documentation used to produce the estimates in the DRC’s interactive data query.

Researchers and analysts can use these data to examine more than 400 child health measures, including the new Title V MCH Block Grant national performance and outcome measures. Examples include:

  • Child and Adolescent Flourishing
  • Children with Special Health Care Needs (CSHCN)
  • Family Resilience
  • Medical Home
  • Mental Health Treatment or Counseling
  • School Readiness
  • Whole Child Risk Index (including Medical, Social, and Relational Domains)

Turning Data into Action!

The field has spent a lot of time talking about children’s health; now is the time for real action. Despite strong systems and programs in place, many children and families still face significant challenges, and awareness alone will not solve them. That is why the DRC exists: not just to add to the discussion, but to provide the data needed to drive action, inform decisions, target resources, track progress, and achieve measurable improvements in children’s and families’ health.
