Tickets are selling fast for one of the Chamber’s most popular events - the 10th Annual No Tie Affair Oyster Roast and Low Country Boil will be held Saturday, September 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. at the NC Zoo's Solar Pointe Plaza. Don't miss this great way to network with 250+ business professionals in a FUN atmosphere.

Tickets are $60 per person, and entertainment will be provided by DJ Gary Hunt. The menu is all you can eat steamed oysters, steamed shrimp, sausage, chicken, corn, potatoes, and desserts, with beer, wine and soft drinks. Turn in your No Tie Ticket for a free ticket to win a bottle of wine, and we will also have a small, live auction that evening.

Special Message from Sen. Thom Tillis for Veterans & Gold Star Families:

"This is a particularly difficult time for many veterans and Gold Star Families who are understandably saddened, angered, and despondent watching the events over the past week. Our brave men and women in uniform did everything our nation asked them to do in Afghanistan and more, keeping Americans safe from terrorists and providing the Afghan people with the opportunity to experience freedom for the first time in their lives.

They should know they are not alone right now and there are many resources available to help them get through this. For North Carolinians who have friends and loved ones who served, please make sure you check in on them and let them know how grateful we are for their service to our nation."

LAST WEEK IN Washington DC and in RALEIGH:

There is not much more to report regarding the ongoing efforts by bipartisan conferees from the NC House and Senate to reach a compromise budget for the state. As we told you last week, leaders from both chambers have signaled that they hope to agree to a budget plan and then seek input from Governor Cooper before presenting him with a formal budget to sign. The idea is to allow legislators to preemptively address any potential concerns from within the executive branch that might prevent final passage or complicate the negotiation process.
