Happy February!

This week, Wiarton Willie predicted a short winter so we're hoping to enjoy a local patio and outdoor activities again sooner rather than later! In the meantime, we're looking forward to connecting with you at our upcoming virtual events.

The next Coffee & #ConnectingGrimsby will be held on Friday, February 19 and you won't want to miss it! It's an excellent opportunity to learn more about what's going on in the local business community and share what you're working on.

We're thrilled to announce that we are launching a virtual Ask The Expert series! Stay tuned for more details to come, but be sure to save the date for our first event on Monday, February 22 from 12 - 1 PM. We will be welcoming our first guest expert, Anita Coit, owner of A Queen's Coach, to discuss how your perspective affects your success - professionally and personally.

Will you be joining us at our 2020 Annual General Meeting this year? This concise and important event will be held virtually on Wednesday, March 10 and we need your participation. As a membership-based organization, the Chamber's duty at the AGM is to report back to you, our valued members.

Nominations are OPEN for the 2021/2022 Board of Directors. Looking to add your voice to the activities and direction of the Chamber? We encourage you to consider joining our Board of Directors and be part of an engaged, diverse, enthusiastic team! You may nominate another member in good standing or yourself via the nomination form.

Virtual event sponsorship opportunities are still available to gain five months of exposure for one low cost of $100. Contact us for more details; we'd love to be part of your marketing mix.

We still have plenty of non-medical masks available for free to local businesses, generously donated by MedSup Canada, via the Town of Grimsby. Let’s do our part to keep ourselves, our staff, and our customers safe. Email us to arrange contactless pick-up.

If there is anything we can do to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out - we always want to hear from you!

Stay well. Stay safe.

Ontario Chamber of Commerce
Chamber Network Calls for Coordinated Reopening Approach

We have been actively working with the committed team at the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, who have put together a focused and highly relevant ask from the provincial government around reopening our businesses.

Local Chambers across Ontario are calling on our MPPs for measures to ensure society reopens in a harmonized fashion that prioritizes individual safety as well as economic stability, including:
  • A readiness plan with a focus on sectors and regions hardest hit;
  • Improved reopening communication, such as advanced notice, clear guidelines, and workplace safety training;
  • Evidence-based decision making; and
  • Continued support for those who need it most.
2021 Ontario Economic Report

Ontario Chamber of Commerce and our partners in the Ontario Chamber Network released the fifth annual Ontario Economic Report highlighting the unprecedented year that was 2020 and the unpredictability that lies in the year ahead.

Key highlights from the OER include:
  • Ontario witnessed a steep decline in real GDP growth (-5.6%) in 2020 but is projected to see a moderate rebound of 4.8% in 2021, fuelled largely in part by expectations for vaccination rollout and the eventual re-opening of the economy.
  • In 2020, only 21% of survey respondents expressed confidence in Ontario’s economic outlook. Around half of Ontario businesses (48%) are confident in the outlook of their own organizations.
  • Organizations across Ontario pivoted and adapted their operations, demonstrating nimbleness, ingenuity, and resilience.
  • The majority (58%) of survey respondents said their organizations between April and September, while only 17% grew.
  • Sectors most negatively impacted by the crisis included: accommodation and food services; arts, entertainment, and recreation; and retail.
  • There has been unprecedented collaboration and communication between industry and business sectors and all levels of government as they work together to find solutions.
  • Businesses’ priorities for governments during economic recovery included enhancing access to capital, reforming business taxes, encouraging Ontarians to buy local, and investing in broadband infrastructure.
  • A renewed focus has emerged on how micro-choices can and do effect positive economic growth and business confidence, such as buying local.
