As we close out the 2020-2021 academic year at AUM, we reflect on the role our university has played in responding to the pandemic through a number of protocols to reduce the impact to our students, employees and throughout our community. To date, AUM has provided Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines to more than 6,000 students, employees, and community members with no adverse incidents reported. COVID-19 vaccines are available to AUM students, employees, and family members, and can be scheduled by contacting Warhawk Heath Services at 244-3281. Learn more about the university’s vaccination efforts here.
The 2020-2021 AUM performance cycle comes to a close on May 31. We have highlighted important information about the performance management timeline in this newsletter for your convenience.

Since joining AUM in 2006, he has taught financial management (i.e., corporate finance) for undergraduate and graduate programs and entrepreneurial finance. His collaboration with students extends beyond the classroom through his role as the faculty advisor to the Investment Club, and to student teams participating in the outside competitions such as CFA Institute Research Challenge and Private Business Valuation Competition. He also enriches the learning environment for his students by accompanying them to student investment conferences like Global Asset Management Education Forum in New York City and the Capstone Student Investment Conference in Tuscaloosa. He has served as a member of AUM Faculty Research Council, and is the editor of Southern Business and Economic Journal that the College of Business publishes twice a year. As a researcher, he has published more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles in journals such as Journal of Banking and Finance, Journal of Financial Research, Journal of Accounting and Public Policy, and Review of Financial Economics. His primary research interests include initial public offerings of stocks and stock market performance. Important points to remember
- Although vaccines are strongly encouraged, currently there is no general vaccine mandate or requirement for AUM employees or students to be vaccinated.
-
Accordingly, employees and students should not be asked about their vaccination status, with limited authorized exceptions.
- Employees and students who have been vaccinated must still adhere to all of AUM’s current COVID-19 protocols, including but not limited to properly wearing face masks (covering the nose and mouth).
- Employment-related decisions should not be made based on whether an employee has been vaccinated, with limited authorized exceptions.

Benefit

You recently received an announcement that the AUM Wellness Center extended an invitation for summer membership to AUM employees beginning on May 3rd for May, June, and July. We would like to take this time to remind our employees of the continuation of our Wellness Benefit for our full-time employees. The details of the AUM Wellness Benefit are detailed below:
- AUM full-time employees can request one hour per workday to exercise in the Wellness Center (Monday-Friday) during the employee’s regularly scheduled shift.
- To be eligible for this benefit, the employee must be a member of the AUM Wellness Center or a Wellness Center approved program such as Scale Back Alabama or the Warhawk Wellness Challenge.
- Employees must have approval from their supervisor prior to taking their wellness hour to ensure that the timing of their daily wellness hour supports the department’s operational demands.
- If approved by the supervisor, the employee is provided a wellness hour and a lunch hour as a part of their regular shift each day.
- This benefit is not an entitlement and could be revised or suspended at any time as needed to ensure the appropriate coverage of work and/or expected levels of customer service.
- Exempt employees and their supervisors are responsible for ensuring exempt employees do not exceed the one-hour benefit.
- Non-exempt employees should clock out at their duty station (not the Wellness Center) prior to arriving at the Wellness Center and clock back in at their duty station when they are returning to work.
- For non–exempt employees, the timekeeper or supervisor will enter RNW (regular non-work) for the wellness hour as long as the employee’s hours for the day do not exceed 8 hours. For example, if the employee has 7.25 hours without the RNW, then 0.75 hours of RNW would be entered for the wellness hour to ensure that the employee does not exceed 8 hours for the day.
If you have additional questions about this benefit, please contact the AUM Office of Human Resources at hr@aum.edu or 334-244-3641.
