June 2017

Is telehealth going mainstream? After the 2017 Northeast Regional Telehealth Conference, it seems like that's exactly where organizations want to go! Nearly 170 clinicians, administrators, telehealth directors/managers/coordinators, payers, government agencies, and others attended our 3rd annual Regional Conference to learn about best practices and innovation, network with colleagues, and identify opportunities to advance their telehealth programs. Check out some of the conference headlines as covered by mHealth Intelligence:

Telehealth Policy Updates

Telehealth policy continues to evolve across the northeast. Massachusetts and New Jersey consider passing their first substantial legislation, while several other states are revisiting and updating existing laws.
Gov. Scott signing Act 64

The most notable regional update this month comes from  Vermont , wher e   Governor Phil Scott signed Act 64 on June 7 at the University of Vermont Medical Center.  This act  requires commercial health insurance plans and Medicaid to cover health care services delivered through telemedicine, regardless of whether the patient is in a health care facility, at home, at work, or anywhere else. It maintains a requirement that the telemedicine connection be secure and that it comply with federal health privacy laws. The act requires a health care provider delivering health care services through telemedicine to obtain and document a patient's oral or written informed consent before delivering services to the patient and prohibits health care providers and patients from recording their telemedicine consultations.

A variety of federal bills have also been introduced this year, including the CHRONIC Care Act, the CONNECT for Health Act, the HEART Act, and the Medicare Telehealth Parity Act
