The recording for the Jan. 14 rank list town hall can be found here. (passcode: cF+7BL$Y). Please complete the Career Advising Curriculum modules assigned to you: Creating a Rank Order List and Match Week and SOAP. Deadline: Fri., Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.


Class of 2026


• Elective registration is open. Please refer to the Dec. 11 email sent by Christina Chin for instructions provided during the fourth-year town hall.


• The away rotations process town hall will be held on Mon., Feb. 10, from 5 to 6 p.m. via Zoom. Please complete the two Career Advising Curriculum modules assigned to you (ideally before the town hall): Applying to Away Rotations and Navigating Texas Star for Aways and Residency Applications. Deadline: Fri., Feb. 14 at 5 p.m.


• VSLO authorizations were issued on Thurs. Jan. 2. If you haven’t received your login information via email, check your spam folder. Many visiting applications require a CV, personal statement, and letters of recommendation. Review the Careers Curriculum Modules on Building a CV, The Personal Statement, and Letters of Recommendation for guidance. Health forms are also needed. Occupational Health can complete up to three of these forms. Student Health Services can complete additional forms, including those that require a doctor’s exam and/or signature. The deadline for applying for the 2025-2026 gap year is Tues., Feb. 18. Applications require: student's CV, career plan essay, research plan and mentor’s CV/biosketch, and letter of support with mentoring plan. Apply here. Make an appointment with Dr. Jessica Rieder before Mon., Feb. 10 if you have questions or need support.

 

The AMA Foundation’s 2025 Physicians of Tomorrow scholarship is accepting applications. This scholarship is for students preparing to enter their fourth year of medical school. For more information, contact: Allison Wesel. Deadline: Mon., Feb. 17.


Class of 2027


The deadline for taking the NBME self-assessment is Mon., Feb. 3. Contact Christina Chin with questions.

The Offices of Medical Education and Student Affairs are holding a mandatory in-person town hall on Tues., Feb., 11, at 12:15 p.m. in the Riklis Auditorium. To facilitate productive discussions, please submit your anonymous comments, questions, or concerns to your OME representatives, Noel Cercizi and Sanjana Boyapalli, in advance. There will be a Q&A during the meeting. Lunch will be provided.


All M1 and first-year MSTP students are invited to the Convocation of Thanks ceremony, which honors the generous donations of individuals who have chosen to donate their bodies to science. Join us on Tue., Jan. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Lubin Dining Hall. Dinner will be provided. RSVP here by Jan. 21.

Seeking Pi(e) – Submissions for New Recipe Book

March 14 is an important day at Einstein. While Pi Day is celebrated nationwide, this date holds special significance as it also marks the birthday of our namesake. To commemorate this year’s festivities, an Einstein community pi(e) recipe book is being compiled. Submit your favorite recipes here for inclusion. Discover the Heart of Medicine

Join The Healer’s Art, a program that explores the human dimensions of medicine. Through non-judgmental, interactive small groups led by faculty, you’ll nurture compassion, self-care, and connection. Topics include grief, awe, and values in medicine. Sessions begin Mon., Feb. 3, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. RSVP by Mon., Jan. 27.


Enhance Your Communications Skills

Join communication specialists from Stony Brook's Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science for an immersive virtual workshop on responsive listening and empathic science communication on Tues. Feb. 4, from 9 to 11 a.m. via Zoom. Register here. The interactive session by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research will explore techniques to enhance trust and engagement in science. Promoting Disability Justice

Montefiore Einstein Center for Bioethics invites you to a virtual disability justice symposium on Thurs., Feb. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. (EST), featuring national leaders in the field of disability. Dean Office Hours/Student Meetings

Assistant Dean for Integrated Medical Science Education Dr. Janice Thomas John holds weekly office hours/student meetings on Mondays from 7 to 8:30 a.m., Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m., in Belfer 211C, and virtually (by appointment). You can reach out to Tiffany Sarpong to schedule.


For clinical rotations, Dr. Melissa Laudano, assistant dean for clinical sciences education, will continue in-person drop-in office hours immediately following PDC sessions in the lobby of the Clinical Skills Center. You may also schedule appointments with her by contacting Hamna Younas.

STUDENT HEALTH RESOURCES

Needlestick and Other Occupational Exposures

Einstein’s Occupational Health Service (OHS) supports matriculated and visiting students who experience accidental exposure to blood or bodily fluids during their training. If you encounter a needlestick, splash, or similar event, you must do the following:


  1. Immediately notify your supervisor (resident or attending) and seek medical attention at the site’s emergency room.
  2. Report the exposure to OHS at 718-430-3141 or via email as soon as possible.
  3. After receiving initial treatment in the ED, follow up with the Student Health Center by calling 347-498-2439 for continued care.

Testing Positive for COVID Guidelines

If you test positive for COVID, contact the Einstein Occupational Health Service. For those on clinical rotations, please refer to these guidelines for important information and resources.
