Old-Time Gondola
Now Available in HO and N Scale

The Gondola was an early development in freight railroading. In many ways, it was a natural evolution from the most primitive of horse-drawn carts. These were fairly basic cars, featuring open deck construction, with wood planks mounted on an iron frame and wood plank sides with a cast-iron brake wheel at one end. Despite this simple appearance, however, they were one of the most versatile car types available to shippers at the time and were capable of hauling just about anything. Examples of loads typically transported by early gondolas included ballast, soil, cut wood, military supplies, construction equipment, and even produce - from bags of grain or flour to berries picked fresh from the field. They would frequently be found in mixed freight consists, coupled among early wooden boxcars and tank cars, and would also make appearances on company maintenance trains and supply moves during the Civil War.

The Bachmann Old-Time Gondola is now available in both HO and N scale in Silver Series® quality. Featuring paint schemes from authentic railroads of the late 1800s, and displaying an early wood appearance, the cars come complete with a wood-grain effect on the deck and sides, a separately applied brake wheel, era-appropriate arch-bar trucks, blackened metal wheels, and E-Z Mate® knuckle couplers for simple coupling to other locomotives and cars from the Bachmann Old-Time range.

New Rolling Stock to Expand Your HO Scale Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey™ Circus Train
|
|
|
|
Three new cars are arriving later this year for our Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey™ Circus Train range. These will serve as excellent expansion items to our previously released Circus Train cars including the Smooth-Side Coaches and Observation Car.
1. The Advertising Car - This car would arrive ahead of the circus train to act as a base of operations for getting the word out that the circus was coming to town.
2. The Pie Car - The circus train was not just a means of transportation, it was home for the performers and crew while on the road. The "Pie Car" was the nickname given to the dining car, which will be available in both Blue and Red Unit colors.
3. Flatcar with Containers - In addition to transporting people and animals, the circus train also carried all of the props and equipment needed to make the show happen. The rear portion of the train consisted of flatcars carrying containers loaded with everything from smoke machines and lights to costumes, props, and merchandise.

British Brake Van Track-Cleaning Car
with international-style hook-and-loop couplers
|
Brake Vans are the British equivalent of the North American Caboose. Much like their stateside counterparts, they could frequently be found at the rear of freight trains through much of the 20th Century. As technology advanced, many found a second career in maintenance-of-way operations, helping to keep the rail network moving. The new Bachmann British Brake Van can do exactly this for your railroad. The car’s exclusive dry cleaning system features a reusable track cleaning pad to keep your rails shining and your operation trouble-free. Features include a reusable and replaceable track cleaning pad, all-metal wheels, and factory-installed international-style hook-and-loop couplers.
