You respect your body and mind.
You don’t eat junk, and you get adequate exercise because you know it’s good for you and feels good, too. You don’t indulge in activities that waste your time or sap your energy or creativity.
 
You know what your dreams are, and you pursue them.
You’re in touch with what you really want, and what brings you joy. You don’t fear criticism and judgment if you engage in new ventures or take risks. You lead with your strengths, and you work on your weaknesses because you don't want anything holding you back from happiness. As a result, you are recognized and rewarded for your hard work and talents.
 
And when things don’t turn out the way you’d hoped, the way they sometimes do in life? You trust it will all work out the way it needs to, and you move on.

Why? Because without self-love, you want others to give you what you are incapable of giving yourself: unconditional regard and acceptance.  

You blame yourself when others are upset with you, and you take others’ opinions of you personally. Or you don’t feel worthy of others’ friendship, or love.
 
Without self-love, your career suffers .
You shrink from challenges and opportunities. You don’t feel up to the task, or you don’t think you’re qualified to go after your dreams. You feel stuck in a groove, but feel powerless to make changes.
 
That’s because when you lack self-love, you don’t feel deserving of living your life on your terms. You believe the lies you’ve been telling yourself about yourself , and it keeps you from living up to your potential.
 
Without self-love, your health suffers.
You feel empty, so you fill yourself up with sugary treats and processed food even though you know they’re bad for you. You are anxious or lonely, so you numb yourself with TV and social media. You drink to relax and unwind, and you rarely stop at just one glass, then suffer for it. You tell yourself you’ll start exercising…just not today because you’re too fatigued from your various feel-good addictions.
 
The things you do to feel better often end up making you feel worse—much worse.
 
Without self-love, you’re on an emotional roller-coaster.
You're forever managing anxiety, depression, listlessness, anger, or boredom. Often, you aren’t even aware of what you’re feeling, you just know you need to vent to a friend, complain, have a drink, or “lose yourself” in some form of entertainment.
