Cleanup of Polluted Soil Near Verde Elementary

The Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) will begin soil remediation (cleanup) of the 506 Brookside Drive Richmond, CA site during the Summer of 2025.

Why this site?

This location is considered a brownfield site, meaning it is an abandoned or underused property that is contaminated with hazardous substances or pollutants. The site is located near Verde Elementary School, which raises significant health concerns for the surrounding community.

Why is this important?

With the soil being contaminated, the hazardous substances can negatively impact respiratory health of nearby residents, including the children attending Verde Elementary.

What can I do?

DTSC has sent a postcard to Richmond Residents notifying them of this cleanup. Stay informed and engaged by continuing to read this newsletter every month and sign up for educational and informative events here.

Project documents, including the Removal Action Workplan, are available online at www.envirostor.dtsc.ca.gov/public (enter “Brookside Drive” or Site code “60002666”).
