For the more than 21% of seniors living in poverty in New York City, finding and remaining in an affordable and safe home is a major challenge. Council Member Jumaane D. Williams (D-Brooklyn), Deputy Leader, Chair of the Council's Housing and Buildings Committee, is proud to publicize additional affordable housing units have become available for senior citizens.
Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty announced on August 25, 2014 that Council Towers VII Senior Housing (2219 Givan Avenue, Bronx, NY) began accepting applications for 78 affordable units. Applicants must be 62 years of age and over. Qualifications will be based on Section 8 Federal guidelines.
Met Council has provided affordable housing as a core service since 1985, because a safe and affordable home is one of the key elements in helping someone out of poverty. Council Towers VII will join Met Council's 18 other affordable housing sites for seniors.
Interested persons may apply by requesting an application in writing to: Council Towers VII Senior Housing c/o Met Council, 120 Broadway, 7th Floor New York, NY 10271. You can also download an application by clicking HERE, or pick up an application at the following offices: Council Towers I: 777 Co-op City Boulevard Bronx, NY 10475 or Met Council Broadway, 7th floor New York, NY 10271. Officers are open Monday - Thursday 9 AM to 4 PM ; Friday 9 AM to 2 PM
Completed applications must be sent via first class mail only to the Post Office Box stated on the application form. Applicants should not mail more than one application per household. If more than one application is received, the applicant will be dropped to the bottom of the list. Completed applications must be received by September 24, 2014.
