NEW TRAFFIC PATTERN IMPLEMENTED AT LASKIN ROAD AND FIRST COLONIAL ROAD INTERSECTION
VIRGINIA BEACH - Contractor crews with the Virginia Department of Transportation's Laskin Road Bridge Replacement and Widening Project have implemented a new traffic pattern at the intersection of Laskin Road and First Colonial Road.

The new traffic pattern closes the slip ramps for right turns from westbound Laskin Road (toward Hilltop) to northbound First Colonial Road and from eastbound Laskin Road (toward the oceanfront) to southbound First Colonial Road. Designated right-turn lanes are now in place from mainline Laskin Road to both north- and southbound First Colonial Road.

Business access via entrances/exits will remain in place, with existing access being extended to mainline Laskin Road.

This traffic pattern will be in place for approximately six months as widening work continues.

Ultimately, this location on Laskin Road is being widened to an 8-lane divided highway (two 12-foot through lanes, one 14-foot wide outside lane to accommodate bikes in each direction and a continuous right turn lane in each direction) with a 5-foot sidewalk on the south side and a 10-foot sidewalk on the north side. First Colonial Road is being widened to a six-lane divided highway from Laurel Lane to I-264.

This work is weather-dependent and the schedule is subject to change.
VDOT contractor crews have implemented a new traffic pattern at the intersection of Laskin Road and First Colonial Road that includes the closure of the slip ramps for right turns (indicated in red on the above map) onto First Colonial Road from both east- and westbound Laskin Road. Right turns onto First Colonial will now be made from mainline Laskin Road.
