Play Therapy

Description:


This six hour workshop will provide an overview or how trauma, family stress, and environmental factors can impact attachment between caregivers and young children. Participants will learn ways to assess attachment styles in both caregivers and adults and create a safe and nurturing environment for families to learn play techniques to strengthen attachment. Therapeutic play interventions will be taught through role play, case study, and instructor example. Discussion about how to adapt techniques to telehealth will also be included.


Learning Objectives:


  • Participants will be able to explain how racial trauma and socioeconomic factors impact mental health and attachment in children birth to six years old.
  • Participants will assess relational qualities between a child and caregiver in order to support play based interventions.
  • Participants will be able to compare four primary types of attachment.
  • Participants will be able to utilize the use of at least three therapeutic interventions with children ages birth to six.



Presenter: Angela Celano, LCSW

Angela Celano is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in mental health treatment for children and adults who have experienced trauma. Angela received her master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Southern California. She received extensive training through University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles in early childhood development and mental health and is certified in Child Parent Psychotherapy, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Seeking Safety. Angela served in Los Angeles County as a mental health clinician on a multidisciplinary team assessing children and infants who had recently been placed in foster care. Angela has advocated for increased mental health services for infants as a way to prevent trauma and support families. Currently, she works for the Center for Child and Family Traumatic Stress at Kennedy Krieger Institute where she supervises staff, leads the Child Parent Psychotherapy Clinic, and provides outpatient therapy to children of all ages who have experienced trauma.

Cancellation Policy:


Written notification of cancellation must be received in our office at least 10 business days prior to a training for a refund. A $25.00 cancellation fee will be deducted from the refund. There will be no refund for cancellation notification less than 10 business days.


CBPS reserves the right to cancel a training due to inclement weather or insufficient enrollment. In the event of such cancellation, you will receive a full refund. 


Cancelling your Zoom meeting registration does not constitute cancellation of your CBPS session registration. Please refer to our cancellation policy in the training announcement, which supersedes all other mentions of options to cancel your registration.
