Wheat
For the most part, wheat is currently ahead of schedule and performing in its G30-32 growth stage. The early wheat growth is also leading to early weed pressure. We have been seeing lambsquarters, ragweed, chickweed, and stinkweed especially. Weeds will need to be sprayed within the next couple of weeks. If you are unsure of what chemical you need to combat the weeds in your field, please feel free to call your agronomist for advice.

Please keep in mind that with the colder temperatures arising, it may become too cold to spray wheat. Wheat needs a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius 24 hours before and after spraying to avoid any crop injury.

If ideal conditions continue, we may see an early wheat harvest, followed up by some double-crop soybeans.
Fertilizer
Fertilizer is going out of our branches strong, mainly to be applied on wheat, pasture, and hay so far. We are currently seeing both the first split application, as well as the full shot of fertilizer for wheat being applied.
Chemical
We are starting to ship out chemical orders now, and we can assemble skids for farmers if they would like to store their product on farm. We are strongly advising people to pick up chemical orders ahead of time, to ensure supply.

In terms of chemical application, we have seen some burn down on corn stocks.
We are also encouraging T1 and T3 fungicide application for wheat. There has been signs of Septoria showing up in the wheat already, so the T1 application would be an smart choice to protect your wheat crop.
Seed
Both bagged and bulk delivery and pickup on seed is in full swing at our branches. If you would like to schedule a pickup or delivery, please give us a call!

Soil
Soil conditions have been good, but next two weeks are expected to be cold. If the forecast is realized, the soil would be too cold to plant/have crops in the ground. We are recommending that you hold off on planting until the cold snap passes.
Overall, the soil profile is drier than normal, however, recent rains have really helped wheat growth. Rains this week would be welcomed.
Here is an interesting chart from Twitter shared by Dan Emmert (@DanEmmert), an agronomist in Indiana. It is definitely something to consider when weighing whether to risk planting early.
