Small Communities/Sustainability

The NEWEA Small Communities and Sustainability Committees welcome abstracts submissions for "Sustainability in Small Communities", their jointly hosted one-day conference addressing the sustainability practices of wastewater systems designed to handle less than 1 MGD.
This conference will take place September 8, 2025 at the Publick House in Sturbridge, MA.
Submit online by April 30, 2025. Presenters will be expected to register for the conference, and no travel or assistance funds are available for speakers.

IT/Asset Management Fair

The New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) Information and Operational Technology Committee and NEWEA's Asset Management Committee are seeking presentations for the Fall 2025 Information Technology & Asset Management Fair.
The symposium will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025 at the NEWWA training center in Holliston, MA. The fair will consist of a combination of technical presentations and “learning stations”, where actual demonstrations of technology may be made in a small group interactive forum.
Our intent for this year’s symposium is to assemble a diverse set of presentations and points of view from projects, studies, and practices demonstrating how utilities have leveraged technology to meet the challenges of maintaining aging infrastructure and meeting regulatory requirements.

With the goal of increasing public awareness of water quality, NEWEA is seeking homebrewers for our Source Water Brewers Competition.
This friendly competition will challenge each brewer to create an original beer using local source water from your tap. Brewers must provide 150-300 ounces of beer in bottles, cans, growlers, or kegs for pouring at the Source Water Brewers Competition on August 6, 2025 at Harpoon Brewery in Boston, MA. Prior to the competition, a tour of Harpoon's wastewater treatment plant will be offered.

Maine: Maine water professionals Phil Tucker, Nicki Pellenz, Dan Marks, and Terry Tucker recently joined Wastewater Digest to discuss first hand experience with and potential solutions to some of Maine's most pressing water challenges.
Massachusetts: MAWEA's 2025 Trade Show & BBQ will take place on May 28 at Wachusett Mountain in Princeton, MA. Registration is now open.
New Hampshire: There's still time to register for NHWPCA's Trade Fair, taking place on April 10 in Nashua, NH.
Rhode Island: RICWA, PWTech, and NEBRA are hosting Dewatering and Drying Technology in Biosolids Processing on April 24 in North Kingstown, RI.
Vermont: Registration for GMWEA's Spring Meeting, taking place May 22 in Killington, VT, is now open.
