NEWEA's Industrial Wastewater Committee Hosting Conference and Tour

Join us on December 10 in Portland, ME for technical discussions on pretreatment, as well as integrated wastewater management, direct potable reuse, and chemical feed basics. Tours will be offered of a laundry facility and brewery.

Scholarship Applications Deadline is December 6

NEWEA's Scholarship Committee is pleased to offer nearly $10,000 in scholarship funding to dedicated and aspiring water industry professionals studying at the undergraduate and graduate levels. All applications are due online by 3:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024.

Limited Exhibit Space Remains at the 2025 Annual Conference

The Annual Conference features an exhibit hall spread over two floors of the conference venue and comprised of more than 200 booths. Exhibitors will be showcasing their latest water quality products and services. Attendees can earn Training Contact Hours (TCH) for visiting the Exhibit Hall.

Innovation Exhibitor Applications Due by December 6

Early and growth stage companies with innovative solutions for the water industry are invited to apply to exhibit at Innovation Day at the Annual Conference on Tuesday, January 28. The full day of Innovation programming includes a Plenary Session featuring a panel on the future of water and pitches from innovators who developed technology to address the water industry’s most pressing concerns; exhibits from start-ups in the region; and morning and afternoon technical sessions.

Young Professionals Summit Attendee/Sponsor Registration Now Open

The Young Professionals (YP) Summit, taking place January 26 in Boston as part of NEWEA's Annual Conference, gathers water industry YPs for a full day program highlighting leadership and technical skills that will help develop these professionals into industry leaders.

Student Poster Abstracts Deadline is This Friday, December 6

Undergraduate and graduate students participating in research or a class project on water pollution control, water quality, hazardous waste, or other environmental engineering topics are invited to submit an abstract for NEWEA's 2025 Student Poster Competition.

"Ideas, Technologies, and People Innovating to Protect New England’s Waterways" is now live on NEWEA's YouTube channel!


This video is the third and final installment in our three-part Water for Life video series, produced by NEWEA's Public Awareness Committee. This series highlights the people, projects, and ideas that keep New England's water environment safe and accessible.


This third part of the series features water professionals from throughout New England discussing the innovation technologies and processes they're developing and implementing to protect our region's waterways, as well as the need to recruit and retain new professionals with new ideas to the water industry to address existing and emerging water challenges.

Open House Guidelines Now Available

NEWEA's Public Awareness Committee has created an Open House Guidelines Toolkit for Public Water Facilities that is now available for downloading.


Water professionals are essential employees protecting our access to clean water, but members of the communities we serve are often unaware of this vital work. An open house is a great way to welcome individuals into our facilities to learn more about the key role water professionals and facilities play in our communities.


This 20+ page document is a great resource to help you plan your next open house event. It provides a step-by-step planning guide, promotional press release examples, a detailed checklist, and much more. Click the button below to download your copy.

2025 Spring Meeting Call for Abstracts

NEWEA invites the submission of abstracts for the 2025 Spring Meeting!


This annual meeting consistently attracts more than 300 engineers, consultants, scientists, operators, and students, and features a variety of technical sessions, exhibitor displays, and the Operations Challenge competition. It provides an opportunity for professional exchange of information and state-of-the-art concepts in wastewater treatment and water environment issues.


Please consider submitting an abstract on water quality topics such as:


  • Biosolids
  • Infrastructure Funding
  • One Water/Strategic Planning
  • Operators’ Perspectives
  • PFAS
  • Resiliency
  • Stormwater/Flood Detection
  • Workforce Development


Abstracts are due by Friday, January 31, 2025.

2025 Mentoring Program

The deadline for enrolling in the Young Professionals Committee's Mentoring Program is approaching!


This program was created with the goal of forming a working relationship between those in the beginning of their water industry careers and seasoned professionals.


The program will involve a commitment from mentors and mentees from January 2025 until January 2026. During that time, it is requested that mentors and mentees have an in-person or phone meeting at least once every three months. A new class of mentees will be enrolled at the start of each cycle, but mentees and mentors are encouraged to maintain contact beyond completion of the program at the 2026 Annual Conference.


Submit an application by December 13, 2024 to be considered for this cycle of the program.

Join WEF's Water Leadership Institute Cohort of 2025

The Water Leadership Institute program educates, trains, and provides opportunities that enable developing and emerging leaders to build strong, lasting relationships within the water sector. Participants engage in management training and leadership development through a blended learning approach that includes the examination of complex challenges facing the water and wastewater sectors and networking with public and private sector practitioners.


The 2025 Application Period is Now Open through 11:59 pm PT on January 16th!

Connecticut: Session recordings from CTWEA's 2024 Fall Workshop are now available for viewing on CTWEA.org.


Maine: MEWEA's Executive Board Meeting and Holiday Luncheon is taking place on December 20 at Brunswick Sewer District.


Massachusetts: The latest edition of MAWEA's newsletter, as well as their 2025 newsletter advertising contract, were recently released.


New Hampshire: NHWPCA is currently accepting submissions from students grades 1-6 for their 2025 Clean Water Week Poster Contest.


Rhode Island: RICWA's 2024 Holiday Party and Election is happening at the Potowomut Golf Club on December 6.


Vermont: GMWEA is now accepting abstracts for their 2025 Spring Meeting, scheduled for May 22, 2025 at the Killington Grand.

As we approach the end of the year, NEWEA's Office and Executive Leadership Team wishes to extend our gratitude to all of our members, sponsors, donors, and partners for their generous support this year.
