Annual Conference & Exhibit

January 22-25, 2023

Another year is nearly gone, and as 2022 winds down, we are looking ahead to the new year and our events and programs to come.

For the remainder of this year and into January, we are focused heavily on planning and preparing for our 2023 Annual Conference & Exhibit, which is taking place January 22-25, 2023 in Boston, MA. This year's event features 34 technical sessions, a keynote presentation from EPA Region 1 Administrator Dr. David Cash, a keynote session on the future of the Clean Water Act, and much more.

Attendee registration is now open, the Preliminary Program has been released, limited exhibit booths remain available, and the sponsor enrollment deadline is this Friday, December 9. Additional information and relevant links can be found below.

Prior to the end of this year, the Young Professionals Committee is hosting their next Poo and Brew on December 14. Register at the link below to join them for a tour of the Manchester, NH WWTF and a reception at Pipe Dream Brewing.

Check out the rest of the newsletter for more on committee news and details on upcoming events. Until next newsletter, we hope everyone has a great month and stays healthy.

As always, we invite you to contact Jordan Gosselin at jgosselin@newea.org with committee news and updates you would like to share in future editions.

Water Research Foundation Resources

NEWEA is a member of the Water Research Foundation, and as a member, we have access to a variety of resources on their site. Below is a list of some newly published research. Additional research can be found on their site.

PFAS Outreach Materials

New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) and Northeast Biosolids and Residuals Association (NEBRA) collaborated to produce an awareness and action campaign seeking to gain local, regional, state, and federal support for research on PFAS in our environment.

The campaign uses clear, concise language and imagery to convey to our audiences, which include residents and elected leaders in the six New England states, that PFAS are present in many products we use every day and research is needed to understand its presence, effects, opportunities for mitigation, and steps needed to reduce its existence.

A series of five posters, buck slips, and a one-page informational sheet were created to promote these messages. NEWEA's Public Awareness Committee recently updated the one-page informational sheet to replace the placeholder text with pre-prepared content to educate the public on PFAS.

To learn more about these materials and how to download them for your own use, please contact the NEWEA office.

As we approach the end of the year, NEWEA's Office and Executive Leadership Team wishes to extend our gratitude to all of our members and partners for their generous support this year. 2022 has continued to pose challenges that require us to adapt how we work, live, and connect with one another, and we appreciate your continued support of NEWEA during this time.

Thank you to our volunteers. As a volunteer organization, we could not achieve all that we do without you. The time you contribute to our more than 40 committees makes possible so much of the work we do, including technical and regulatory education, collaborating to create innovative solutions that sustain water quality, and workforce development, among many other projects.

Thank you to our members. Your passion for growing and developing the water industry is evident in the number of members presenting at and attending our events each year, reading and writing for our publications, and nominating professionals for awards recognizing outstanding work.

Thank you to our sponsors, advertisers, donors, and partners. Your generous support in 2022 has sustained existing and new initiatives and programs, including hosting our industry-leading educational and training programs, producing video content to raise awareness about investing in water infrastructure and career opportunities for Veterans in the water industry, and awarding nearly $10,000 in scholarship funding to students working towards a career in the water industry.

If you weren’t as involved with NEWEA this year, now is a great time to join us. Our sponsor and advertiser program is now accepting enrollment applications, registration is open for our 2023 Annual Conference, and we are still accepting online donations.

Thank you again for all that you contribute to NEWEA. We truly appreciate your support, and we wish you a happy and healthy holiday season!
