WITH NEWEA

2025 got off to a busy start with our 2025 Annual Conference. It was great to see so many of our friends and colleagues for three days of technical sessions, exhibits, and networking in Boston.


As we progress into February, we are getting ready for other upcoming events, including the National Water Policy Fly-In in April and our Spring Meeting in May.

Submit a Nomination for a 2024 Stormy Award

New England Stormwater Collaborative is currently accepting submissions for its 2024 Stormy Awards. This program aims to identify New England's best stormwater work. The program accepts submissions of simple, unique, innovative stormwater ideas.

National Water Policy Fly-In YP Scholarship

The Water Environment Federation is offering a Young Professional Scholarship to attend the National Water Policy Fly-In.


This scholarship will cover the registration cost to attend the National Water Policy Fly-In during Water Week 2025 in Washington, DC, as well as provide a $1,000 stipend to 15 Young Professionals to help cover transportation, lodging and food costs. In addition, WEF will offer 5 scholarships to local applicants that will include registration fees and a $500 stipend. Full details about the fly-in are available at www.wef.org/waterweek. Additional funding may be available for scholarship recipients.


Submit the form by February 15, 2025.

In Memory of Russell Adams

We are saddened to inform you that Russell Adams passed away on January 8, 2025.


Russell was a dedicated water professional and NEWEA member for over 40 years. He earned his BA from Dartmouth College in 1971, followed by a year at the Thayer School of Engineering, where he earned his Bachelor of Engineering in 1972. In 1980, he graduated from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business with his MBA.


Russell worked on the design or program construction management of major projects for both the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) and the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA), including the Skokie (IL) North Side Sewage Treatment Plant and the Deer Island (MA) Wastewater Treatment Plant. In 2006, he worked as a contractor with FEMA and commuted between Massachusetts and New Orleans to aid with the recovery following Hurricane Katrina. Throughout his career he was active in multiple professional societies and particularly so in NEWEA, for which he served as President in 1995. He was also inducted into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers (5S) in 1990.

Connecticut: CTWEA's Operations Forum will be held on February 14, 2025 in Plantsville, CT.


Maine: MEWEA and NHWPCA are co-hosting their 16th annual Ski Day at Attitash Mountain Resort on March 13.


Massachusetts: MAWEA's next Quarterly Meeting will take place at the Devens Common Center on March 19.


New Hampshire: Save the date to join NHWPCA for their Legislative Breakfast on March 6 in Concord, NH.


Rhode Island: RICWA is currently accepting applications for 2025 membership.


Vermont: GMWEA is currently accepting abstract submissions and inquiries about exhibit space and sponsorship for their Spring Meeting, taking place May 22.
