The Water Champions series, a subset of the Water for Life campaign, showcases leaders in the water sector sharing their success stories and highlighting how water industry work is essential to protecting our communities and water resources.

In this first installment, Stacy Thompson, Deputy Director of the Water Resource Recovery Department for the City of Saco, ME, discusses the value of working in water.

Watch the video on NEWEA's YouTube channel, visit www.newea.org/water-for-life/ to learn more about our Water for Life campaign, and contact the NEWEA office to nominate a future Water Champion.

Become a Work for Water Collaborative Charter Member

The New England Water Workforce Collaborative was established with collaboration between the Workforce Committees of New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) and New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) in January 2022.

Because workforce challenges are widespread and affect our entire region, NEWEA and NEWWA engaged New England drinking water and clean water associations to join this regional workforce collaborative. The Collaborative is led by the Leadership Group and Steering Committee, comprised of utility leaders from each of the six New England states.

The Steering Committee has drafted a comprehensive Strategic Plan and Roadmap to establish the New England Work for Water Collaborative, with the goal of improving workforce development in New England’s water profession.

To move this forward, the Collaborative invites your organization to join us as a Charter Member. We have two available membership types, Signatory for Utilities/Public Sector and Associate for any private companies. A tiered enrollment structure based on firm size or population served accommodates firms and utilities of all sizes.

Your contribution will directly fund Phase 1 activities, including finalizing the business plan and implementing initial Roadmap initiatives. Our goal is to raise $250,000 by October 1, 2025 to kick-start the collaborative, and with your support, we can achieve meaningful progress in building a sustainable water workforce for New England.

Complete the form online to become a Charter Member, and contact Mary Barry, NEWEA Executive Director, and/or Kirsten King, NEWWA Chief Executive Officer, with any questions.
